Changing meds

Changing meds

Hi. I battled MDD & acute anxiety nearly all of my adult life. I've been on numerous different SSRIs, SRNIs, antipsychotics, tried rTMS & ECT. Am addicted to a benzo for my anxiety.

I am in the process of swapping out from a SRNI to a MAOI and the wash out period is hell. I really don't think I'm going to make it. This is the darkest place I have ever been.
I have no family support, honestly no friends, not able to work & are completely isolated.

i don't feel my medical team actually care much anymore, they are overwhelmed by new clients because of covid.

i hardly sleep, but the last thing in my mind before I do, is how much I want to die. It's the first thought of the day when I wake up.

what if this new medication doesn't work either??

Re: Changing meds

Awwwww @WIP ,

Remember, you've always said it's a work in progress.

Strive for progress, not perfection! You may think every step forward is 10 steps back, but I beg to differ.

You have come suchhhhhh a long way. I don't think you would have been able to complete a DBT course when I first met you. That in itself is one HUGE accomplishment. Often, then training is there to equip you with strats and skills. But unless you practise the skills, it is hard to see change.

I remember my MBT course. The real work was not done until AFTER I'd finished the course. And only now, i am remembering more and more of what I praticed in those sessions.

Be patient. Hold on. Stand strong!

Hugs, BPDSurvivor

Re: Changing meds

Thanks @BPDSurvivor

Unfortunatley, I don't feel I've come very far.

I don't know if it's the reduction in anti anxiety meds or change in anti depressant, but I wake feeling extremely depressed and it's lasts all day long, with lots of tears.
I don't have an appt with my pdoc for another fortnight, and I'll be discussing with him the deal we had around the new AD - if I felt it wasn't helping, he'd let me go back on the one I was on for many years.

This depression and constant tears is taking its toll. I'm having very strong SI, and it's scary. I might just snap and act on them.

Thanks for thinking of me & I hope all is ok with you. Things are looking good for lockdown to finish on time...

So sorry to hear that you're having strong SI, @WIP 😣

Really hope you can hang on till you get that meds review.

Sending much hugs and 💙

Re: Changing meds

@WIP ,

Depression can be so stubborn and resistant, can't it?

I remember once reading, "There's no such thing as treatment-resistant MI - it is about finding the right treatment."

I know you are trying so many different things. I hope you'll find the right treatment soon.

In the mean time, make the most of what you can - Levi, your mum etc.

I'm sitting with you.

Re: Changing meds

@BPDSurvivor Ive tried every treatment possible.

I'm in one of the worst positions I've ever been - uncontrollable crying all day long.

I just can't do this anymore. I don't want to go to a public hospital today - my last experience when I was in this state was so detrimental.

I need something to calm me down or I feel I'm going to do something stupid to stop the pain.

Re: Changing meds

hey @WIP

Having SI and/or SH thoughts can be scary and overwhelming. I have experienced these and unfortunatly acted on quite a few of these. its really hard when nothing seems to work and the world seems like is against you.

Youve mentioned the medications you were on previously were helpful, so i hope your psychiatrist will be willing to discuss this with you.

Would you like to talk here for a while to perhaps calm down? we can talk about anything, it doesnt have to be mh related.
What sorts of things do you like to do-as in do you have any hobbies or a particular interest in somthing?
