Changing meds

Changing meds

Hi. I battled MDD & acute anxiety nearly all of my adult life. I've been on numerous different SSRIs, SRNIs, antipsychotics, tried rTMS & ECT. Am addicted to a benzo for my anxiety.

I am in the process of swapping out from a SRNI to a MAOI and the wash out period is hell. I really don't think I'm going to make it. This is the darkest place I have ever been.
I have no family support, honestly no friends, not able to work & are completely isolated.

i don't feel my medical team actually care much anymore, they are overwhelmed by new clients because of covid.

i hardly sleep, but the last thing in my mind before I do, is how much I want to die. It's the first thought of the day when I wake up.

what if this new medication doesn't work either??

Re: Changing meds

That is so disappointing for you, that your appointment with the psychiatrist didn't go well yesterday. @WIP

I was prescribed ap for sleep and it made me feel awful. So I understand why you don't like taking it. I also asked for a prn for panic attacks. She said take the ap. I only took it a few times. Couldn't stand how it made me feel.
I was prescribed a really good sleep med years ago. It was amazing. I was really careful with it and took breaks from it, but the gp stopped prescribing it. It's so frustrating when we're not listened to. I hope your gp gives you something to help you sleep.
How are you feeling today? Did you sleep at all? 💖☕️

👋 Everyone. 💜

Hi friends,

Well, I'm just feeling really cared for at this moment in time.....

I had an appointment with a different GP at the Clinic where I usually go, and she was the kindest, most compassionate GP I have seen in a long time. The main purpose of my visit was to get a renewed Mental Health Plan, but she prescribed me something to help sleep also to take instead of the antipsychotic. She just shook her head when I explained how my psychiatrist keeps telling me to increase the AP dose to sleep, and agreed with me when I explained how awful it makes me feel.

She listened to the story of my journey - I didn't intend on going through it all, but she was very keen to know. I asked if I could please swap over to her, and she said 'of course you can, as you've said you feel let down by your medical team of late, and I'd be very willing to help you'. My goodness, I can't express how good it feels to be listened to and understood and given positive re-enforcement. She knows of the new lady psychiatrist that I'm booked in to see next month, and she said to me "you've found a good psychologist recently, you're seeing a good psychiatrist next month, and now you've got me also - keep focusing on this positiveness around you, and we'll all help get you back to where you were before all the trauma hit you in 2019".

I know it's only a small thing - having a positive appointment with a GP - but, I haven't felt supported by my medical team last year, and meeting this lady this morning was just what I needed after such a crap session with my soon to be 'old' psychiatrist yesterday.

Sorry, I just had to share my news. I hope you are all having the best day you possibly can.

Love,

L & Levi

Thanks a lot @Former-Member

If anything, I am very persistent and it's starting to pay off. Truthfully, I almost gave up trying, but I'm so glad I didn't.

Maybe things are starting to turn a little for me?!? I'll have to wait and see. However, I'm feeling a little bit hopeful - which I haven't in a very long time.

Re: Changing meds

That's great news. That's so good the gp was understanding. It certainly helps to be listened to.
@WIP

I am pleased she gave you a sleep med. So important to get sleep. Does that mean you will just take the sleep med and not the ap? It will be very interesting to see how you feel. I hope it helps. 💜

Yay @WIP 💕💕👍👍🎉🎉

You are wrong about one thing .... that is NOT a small thing at all ... Its massive! So happy for you. You've worked so long and so hard to achieve this. You are finally managing to gather a great team around you. One which will listen and respond in a manner that you need. I breathe a big sigh of relief for you. 😄🌷

Re: Changing meds

Hi @Former-Member

Well, you're supposed to come off the ap slowly, so I'll reduce it over this week and take the sleeping med if I need it. And then just be on the sleeping med.

I start the DBT course the week after next, so hopefully being active during the days, I'll feel more tired and be able to sleep without the aid of anything regularly and just take it when needed.

It makes such a difference to be listened to and cared for. Some of these specialists in the mental health field, really need to take a look at themselves sometimes - and check that they are actually helping, not hindering their patients.

Re: Changing meds

Thanks so much @Emelia8

It is a pretty big deal, isn't it?!?

I had such a good feeling when I left the GP offiice (even though I had a bit of a cry in there during my appointment).

Thanks for your support
