Changing meds

Changing meds

Hi. I battled MDD & acute anxiety nearly all of my adult life. I've been on numerous different SSRIs, SRNIs, antipsychotics, tried rTMS & ECT. Am addicted to a benzo for my anxiety.

I am in the process of swapping out from a SRNI to a MAOI and the wash out period is hell. I really don't think I'm going to make it. This is the darkest place I have ever been.
I have no family support, honestly no friends, not able to work & are completely isolated.

i don't feel my medical team actually care much anymore, they are overwhelmed by new clients because of covid.

i hardly sleep, but the last thing in my mind before I do, is how much I want to die. It's the first thought of the day when I wake up.

what if this new medication doesn't work either??

Re: Changing meds

Sounds like a fairly positive day @WIP . I am so glad you have the decision to change pdoc s and it sounds like the making of a good team with your Psychologist knowing and respecting her already.

This has been a huge day for you so well done! I appreciate your friendship.

Love

Eve

Re: Changing meds

Thanks @Anastasia I'm proud of myself too.

I've been tooing and frowing with the idea of changing from this current psychiatrist to another one for a long time. And when I just blurted out today to my psychologist - "I've just been polite for too long now, staying and seeing this guy. It's time for me to look after my needs and swap to someone I trust", it was such a relief. Possibly not very professional of me (as she's a colleague of his), but it's what I've been feeling for such a long time.

I'd love to cancel on him, but I do owe him the courtesy of letting him know that I've decided to start seeing an alternative psychiatrist. They all work out of the same consulting suites at the hospital, so I need to do the right thing.

It's been ages since I've had to 'turn someone down' - so it's going to be difficult for me.

Re: Changing meds

Oh @WIP so glad that today went well for you and that you have a good plan going ahead and that you have had the courage to make that much needed and difficult decision to change pdocs. Good on you!

Brave of you and good of you to want to go to your last appointment with your current one, I hope it’s not a too difficult a conversation to have ... use lots of ‘I’ statements... and that he is understanding and knows you have made the best decision for you. I probably would of just cancelled, so again good on you!

Hope your days continue to improve little by little.

I understand L, well I am even more proud of you. It's not easy telling someone you don't want to see them anymore in any capacity. So you go girl, I have the utmost respect for you, I need a leaf from your book xxx

oh @Eve7 what gorgeous @WIP said IS all TRUE. You are very special. You possess all of the qualities that equate to a beautiful friend. I value both of your friendships very much.

Re: Changing meds

Thank you @Bow and I'm glad to hear that your day has been a little bit better.

Thanks for the advice around using "I" statements - that's a good tip! It's going to be a bloody difficult conversation for me, but I need to make the swap - it's been obvious for a long time & I've just been hanging in there because I felt stuck with him. I need to try and not worry about it too much until Wednesday morning, otherwise I'll just get myself wound up and overwhelmed and upset and I've done enough of that over the weekend!.
