Changing meds

Changing meds

Hi. I battled MDD & acute anxiety nearly all of my adult life. I've been on numerous different SSRIs, SRNIs, antipsychotics, tried rTMS & ECT. Am addicted to a benzo for my anxiety.

I am in the process of swapping out from a SRNI to a MAOI and the wash out period is hell. I really don't think I'm going to make it. This is the darkest place I have ever been.
I have no family support, honestly no friends, not able to work & are completely isolated.

i don't feel my medical team actually care much anymore, they are overwhelmed by new clients because of covid.

i hardly sleep, but the last thing in my mind before I do, is how much I want to die. It's the first thought of the day when I wake up.

what if this new medication doesn't work either??

Re: Changing meds

I tried a new highly recommended psychiatrist at the same hospital @Emelia8 . She was great and I would have happily proceeded with her, but she said to stay with the psychiatrist I have, until I'm really unhappy with him and swap over.

one reason I stay with him is that he Bulk bills, and I need that at the moment.

They whole mental Health system is a minefield. It's taken me 12 months to find a psychologist who might be able to help.

I don't have another year waiting to find an appropriate psychiatrist - I'll give up before

then

Re: Changing meds

Yep @Former-Member My GP pushes me to my psychiatrist for any of my mental health meds. She's no help at all.

Re: Changing meds

Is there any way you can go back to the lady psychiatrist that you were happy with @WIP

Re: Changing meds

Re: Changing meds

I don't know. She's very expensive, but did say she'd take me on as a patient if need be @Former-Member

I guess I'd have to contact her referrals team and she if she'd see me. Id also explain how the other psychiatrist bulk bills & would she be keen to do so also.

Re: Changing meds

@WIP I don't know enough about it but I believe Gps can fill in a form for Medicare to request that a pdoc is bulk billed. Extenuating circumstances something like that. Worth asking hun?

Re: Changing meds

It's definitely worth asking about bulk billing @WIP and try and be honest and explain how desperate you are to get out of this turmoil you're in. And what you have been experiencing lately.
It's not good for you to keep seeing someone you can't trust.

Re: Changing meds

He been part of the problem for a long time, but I feel 'stuck' @Former-Member @Anastasia

and rhe financial side of course. I see him fortnightly, and don't have the money to do that with one who charges.

It's all too hard to navigate non my own, I get overwhelmed, like I am now, and don't know what to do. Giving up keeps coming into my mind

Re: Changing meds

Sorry everything is overwhelming you @WIP

I get that feeling often.
It might be a good idea to ask your psychologist if she could perhaps write a letter/email requesting if the lady psychiatrist would consider bulk billing you. It's worth a try. 🌷🌼🌸

Re: Changing meds

Seeing a psychiatrist you have no trust in on a fortnightly basis sounds like false economy @WIP

If you find a psychiatrist worth their salt, you will probably find you will have less need to see them so often. Especially now that you have a good supportive psychologist.

I hope you can make enquiries about another psychiatrist. Your psych may be able to recommend an alternative psychiatrist as well. They should be working together to best support you anyway.

As for bulk billing ... if you dont ask you dont get. I would be trying. Even if you have to pay a gap, it would be money well spent if you achieve results.
