Over-Doers Anonymous

Over-Doers Anonymous

Hi everyone

I have started a thread where we can share and help others by being able to discuss what happens when we do too much and pay for it

We can sympathise, empathise, share with each other - and maybe feel less idiotic about doing whatever it was that we didn't notice at the time

@FaithandHope like this idea - or maybe it was @Former-Member - but whichever - both of you will get a message knowing that I have started this

All right - for the first entry - I told someone my back felt better because I have been wearing better shoes - and we went outside into a freezing half-gale - that was not clever - but then - like everyone else - I have to go shopping

It's settled - but I am sure other people over-do - and yes - feel free to add your story

I can easily shop too long - but I wish I could shop more - trying on clothes in the fitting room is a definite place for over-doing things with my spine - esp when I try on something that is too small

Why oh why to I persist in trying to get on a garment that is too small - just a little bit too small - if it's hard to pull on - then I won't want to wear it that often

I get it - you enjoy it and pay for it afterwards

Time, effort or financial over-doing? whichever it is - if you feel it went on too long - I guess it was over-doing -

Re: Over-Doers Anonymous

Yes it was a good post with interesting responses @Decadian. I have a feeling that there may be people like me who massively over did it at work and the result is burn out, stress, depression and anxiety.
I am trying to stop being 'efficient'.

Re: Over-Doers Anonymous

Hi @utopia

So many young women are brought up to be all things to all people and this is bound to blow up when life gets full with an abundance of issues relating to workload and our health and living up to other's expectations

And those expectations are so often unatainable - and who says what is the right way - the best way?

I would imagine it is enough to have enough done so that the task is attended to without someone running their pretend white gloves through our lives to pick out the bitznpiecez that do not come up to their amazingly beautiful high standards

So - we have to pull out the "Effiency Police" and throw out their guide books and do what we feel is enough to satisfy ourselves on this weird matter

Girls are primed with this when you - and find all you wrote - burn-out, stress, depression and anxiety

We are over-doing when we are being efficient to someone else's standards

Good catch on over-doing - I love it

Re: Over-Doers Anonymous

I like how you explained that @Decadian. One thing I'm learning now (& it takes heaps of practice), is literally doing One thing at a time. Just focusing on that one task. And trying not to think of other tasks when I'm busy.
I never realised until recently, how I was always on the move -physically and mentally. If I wasn't doing something, I was planning.
It's nice to be able to sit and focus on one thing. I hope that's something my son learns from me. One thing at a time.

Re: Over-Doers Anonymous

It's interesting what has been said with regard to women & doing. 😞 I like helping others but it does come at a price. One that sometimes hurts you badly. I'm tired today & as frustrated as I am my washing machine had locked itself shut & the compulsive thought of all this washing I've got to do..I'm kind of giving up. For me I find it goes a little full circle & then it delves into my other life stressors. I become less tolerant to hear what others are telling me when I've just been saying the same thing for year's! Tonight I'm letting the whole stereotype attitudes, beliefs go. It's not helpful to me any longer.😊 I've become too tired for many things.

Re: Over-Doers Anonymous

I have always been a serious over-doer... Like I have to prove to me and everyone else I am good enough. I have had clinical depression for 16 years. A few years back I was finishing some study, starting some other study, working full time, mother of two and found out I was pregnant..??!!!!... Somehow everyone came out of it ok 🙂

Last year I quit my job after barely surviving in a hostile work environment for almost 2 years. I realised that staying would be devastating for my already shaky mental health. Fast forward a year and I am still trying to find my feet in a new career. Management is much better, but I have yet to create a supportive network. Just feel flat. Working more hours than I was before, but less time getting counselling. Just feel as if I have moved from one treadmill to another and nothing is slowing down. I don't even know where I am going with this post.....

I can relate to the proving I am good enough ... as part of my over doing

Nice to meet you @Belen
