Feeling so isolated. Anyone else feeling the same?

Feeling so isolated. Anyone else feeling the same?
Have had to isolate myself from friends and family due to them not understanding what it's been like for me struggling with PTSD, constant anxiety and fatigue. Not only did I loose my father years ago, but I lost my family. I've tried to reach out for help from friends etc but they're too busy. Poured my heart out about something extremely traumatic and not once have they asked if I'm ok. Finding it too hurtful to try and have friends. Seems I have to put on my pretend happy face for them. I've had to isolate and hide from everyone, because it's too hurtful trying. The trouble is I really need someone to talk to who understands.

Re: Feeling so isolated, people say they care, but don't show it.
Bridget, hi I am new to all this interacting. I too am isolated from people. I think we will be waiting a long time for "normal" people to accept we, different feeling and thinking people. But you and i don't know what they realy feel about us. I know some people are too emotional to let us know that they feel for us.
I am thankful that i can feel for others like physically handicapped, deaf and blind and the mute.
but I know what to say to them as I would say to others who are mentally challenged.
i think that when people can't see a mental problem that it doesn't mean all that much, but when we then try to tell them they don't know how to respond. I am thinking today that we can't rely on the attitudes and differences of those who don't seem to care but just go on our way and communicate with the people who do care. I feel i have found the right place here on SANE.
Sometimes i don't know how i feel or what i want at a place in time, i can't expect anybody else to know.
Jackie.

Hi Jackie. When you say you're waiting for 'normal' people to 'accept' what people who have mental health issues suffer from. I think most people who deny that there are people with mental health issues are the ones who need the help and education more than those who have the illness. The 'stigma' attached to depression/mental health has been ongoing to the point where there seems to be a type of segregation. Anyone who has never suffered any form of depression/mental health please raise your hand. When they do, ask have you ever lost someone through illness, suicide, divorce? How did you feel? It may surprise us to find not many people can honestly answer 'no'. If someone say's they're not affected by death by suicide/illness, divorce, try to feel a bit of sympathy for that person. They've never suffered and 'grown' as a result. Once you've suffered, then you grow as a person. Often stronger, because once you've been to Hell and back, chances are you won't re-visit to the same extent as the first time.

Hi Pip. Nice to hear from you. Yes, I have been to heaps of doctors and psychologists. I've tried many antidepressants for anxiety, but they made me feel worse. I have anti anxiety meds for emergencies. Have had lots of counselling, which helped to some extent. I have done alot of research. Read books on everything. 😀 I wish medication would help me, but I've had to work out other ways to get well. I've had to eliminate foods that are bad for me, eat healthy (treat myself sometimes) 😊 The most important thing I believe, is exercise. At present I am able to exercise, but at times I feel so fatigued that I can't. When I feel well enough I plan on making new friends. For now I'll stay safe and heal. Finding this forum will be very helpful I think, as I can tell that people understand on here and bother to chat. 😀 I only joined a couple of days ago. Wish this existed when I was at my worst. Not to worry. Chat soon again Pip. ❤ Do you feel up to sharing your story?

I'm ok thanks Utopia. 😊 Had to go back to bed this morning, but I need to accept that it's ok to do that. Do you feel up to sharing your story? Because I'm new on here. I'm a bit confused about who is who and I'm trying to remember everyones story. 😊 Good that medication helps you. I can't take it, makes me worse. ❤

Hi Jackie. Nice to meet you on here. 😊 I often ask "is anyone normal?" Yes, it is good to have this forum to chat to people who understand. Would you like to share your story? Or if you prefer not to, that's ok. 😊 ❤

Hi Bridget, Pip here. I will one day share with you. I am better now than I was 3 years ago which is why I came on these forums. If I can help someone else achieve the peace and harmony I now live in, my suffering was not in vain.

Re: Feeling so isolated, people say they care, but don't show it.
Hi Bridget. My real name is Lynda. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with a non-cancerous lump in my left breast that had to be removed. My ex and I had booked a 3 month o/seas trip that he refused to cancel, despite being warned that the lump could rupture and I could lose my breast. We went and the trip was a total disaster, I was terribly depressed, scared, lost. My ex in-laws were no help as they refused to accept that I needed help. My ex always put them ahead of me, this time the trip was more important. By the time we returned home, I was ready to leave. Ex begged for second chance, I believed him, lots of things happened that didn't help us, his parents demanded his attention, I was left to my own devices. he ignored my pleas, I finally attempted suicide. Last year I finally got the courage to leave. Since then through sheer willpower, plus counselling, I have become 'reborn' into the self assured person I am now. I came to this site hoping to be able to guide someone else the way I was helped. Any help I give is only through the knowledge I've gained through my own growth and help I was given when I needed it. I have just recently survived another breast cancer scare and been given the 'all clear' again. Thanks for allowing me to share.

Thankyou for sharing, Lynda. Sorry to hear all the stress you went through. You were very courageous to leave your ex. Good to hear you're through the cancer scare.
I've had so many skin cancers cut out, I've lost count. Doesn't help the PTSD. 😂
It's good to chat with you and others who understand on here. 😊❤

Hi @bridgit. A hint when using this site - put a @ symbol in front of the name of the person you are talking to. That way they will get a msg via their email. Less likely to loose contact. I am currently on workcover having suffered acute stress in the workplace. This then led to depression and anxiety and finally a diagnosis of ptsd as well. Have had successful treatment for ptsd. But ongoing depression and anxiety remained or were easily triggered. A bit like my brain was bruised (ptsd) & then any new stressor was like being kicked - straight onto the bruise on my brain. Got pretty bad this year and had awful thoughts of suicide, so I booked myself into hospital. Best decision ever. Did lots of therapy groups. Did lots of crying. Got a psychiatrist. Started understanding what happened to me. Started healing. Still working with my psychiatrist and my gp and psychologist. The more the merrier. Anyway, I'm doing so much better. Not perfect. Don't expect to be. But slowly getting a sense of who I am. I hope to keep improving over time, and find my true sense of self again. She got lost fir a while. I hope your night is going well.
