Coping in the emergency department

Coping in the emergency department

Sometimes in mental health crisis's we end up in the emergency department. And that totally ok, being safe is important.

but how do we cope with our crisis while waiting?

What are some helpful strategies you have found useful during your stay in the department?

I often get stuck in the emergency room waiting room overnight due to the fact there is no mental health team 24/7 where I live. I'm really struggling being here tonight. My usual strategies of listening to music isn't really working so I'm wondering if there is anything else I should try. Please note my cocentration and attention is limited due to being in crisis. I feel trapped and stuck.

I wish lifeline text was 24/7 coz I could really use someone to talk to. Are there any other online options as I cant really call someone due to the nature of a waiting room.

Hi @The-red-centaur , just saw your reply...dinner and clothes are good. I also want to say how impressed I was that during your crisis last night you were supporting someone else in crisis.

@NatureLover @Former-Member I took the meds the psych gave me and have hopped into my mates spare bed.
I'm gonna try to sleep. I didn't get ant all night/day.

I'm still in major crisis but sleep could help. I have to go back to hospital in the morning for further assessment and a possible bed could arise.

I will say goodnight for now. Please take care lovelies.

Thanks for the update last night @The-red-centaur . Hopefully you've caught up on sleep and feel stronger this morning... I hope the trip to the hospital goes well and you're not left waiting for hours this time. Keeping fingers crossed.

Re: Coping in the emergency department

@NatureLover @Former-Member I slept well. Even managed a mini sleep in which is very unlike me.

Just arrived back at hospital. Nurse at triage was a bit rude. I'm so over everything. But I'm here and I'm safe. Will be waiting a while. I have colouring and music to help. I'll get through this I guess. Gotta try to stay positive.

How are you guys.

Re: Coping in the emergency department

Good to see you and to hear you slept well @The-red-centaur . Great you're trying to stay positive in difficult circumstances.

I'm OK thanks, haven't been able to get out in nature for 2 days (rain) and just came back from a walk so I feel a bit better.

Hoping this wait is not so long this time for you...

@NatureLover saw different psych today. He said there's nothing I can do and to go home. What's the point.
