Coping in the emergency department

Coping in the emergency department

Sometimes in mental health crisis's we end up in the emergency department. And that totally ok, being safe is important.

but how do we cope with our crisis while waiting?

What are some helpful strategies you have found useful during your stay in the department?

I often get stuck in the emergency room waiting room overnight due to the fact there is no mental health team 24/7 where I live. I'm really struggling being here tonight. My usual strategies of listening to music isn't really working so I'm wondering if there is anything else I should try. Please note my cocentration and attention is limited due to being in crisis. I feel trapped and stuck.

I wish lifeline text was 24/7 coz I could really use someone to talk to. Are there any other online options as I cant really call someone due to the nature of a waiting room.

Oh no, am sorry to hear this @The-red-centaur 😞 I'm glad you didn't have to wait long but sad that the result is not what you wanted or needed. How do you feel now? Will you go home or to your friend's place?

Hey @The-red-centaur,

It sounds like you have been managing a lot of distress, and supporting yourself step by step through it while you reach out for help. The way you have coped while waiting in the ED shows incredible courage and resilience.

It sounds like you were hoping for a stay in hospital? I can imagine not getting the support you were looking for today has been a blow.

We're sitting with you, while you think about your next steps for today 🌷

Yes, you must feel completely discouraged. I want to say well done for doing everything right in the last few days, for keeping trying despite how difficult and distressing it was. I'm sorry it didn't work out how you needed it to. I wish there was something to make you feel a bit better. @The-red-centaur

You know, I think you're amazing. Back to the place where they haven't helped you, still hoping and still so strong to be there. You're not a f-up, you're ill.

I'm sorry you've been there all night, that sucks...do you know when someone will be there to talk with you? @The-red-centaur

@NatureLover @Former-Member I'm getting admitted as soon as a bed becomes available.
