Coping in the emergency department

Coping in the emergency department

Sometimes in mental health crisis's we end up in the emergency department. And that totally ok, being safe is important.

but how do we cope with our crisis while waiting?

What are some helpful strategies you have found useful during your stay in the department?

I often get stuck in the emergency room waiting room overnight due to the fact there is no mental health team 24/7 where I live. I'm really struggling being here tonight. My usual strategies of listening to music isn't really working so I'm wondering if there is anything else I should try. Please note my cocentration and attention is limited due to being in crisis. I feel trapped and stuck.

I wish lifeline text was 24/7 coz I could really use someone to talk to. Are there any other online options as I cant really call someone due to the nature of a waiting room.

@NatureLover I haven't passed out for a while. I'll be ok.

I was really tired when I posted, I feel better after a nap.

Please don't worry about me

@The-red-centaur can I worry about you a little bit?

Not passing out "for a while" doesn't sound great either 😞

@NatureLover Im scrared to post here with what's going on lately because I don't want to worry anyone.
I care about this place and the people here and don't feel valid enough to post. I'm in a dark place and I don't feel like I deserve the support or even deserve to get better.

I ended up in emergency from lifeline again. I didn't hurt myself for a change.
This morning I'm not doing too well. I'm scared to get up and talk to triage nurse. I can't stop shaking, writing this was so hard. The world is fading away and I don't know how to stop it.

Oh @The-red-centaur - am so sorry to hear that you're in such an awful place 😞 😞

You are definitely valid enough to post, you DO deserve to have support and to get better. You are desperately ill, and going through hell.

I'm glad you reached out. And don't worry, I can handle any worry I have about you, OK? 🙂

Has someone been by to talk to you this morning, a psychiatrist or doctor?

@NatureLover I ended up getting discharged last night, they just kept me in waiting room until I could catch bus this morning.

I don't want to say anything about what's going on without triggering anyone.

OK, thanks for letting us know you're home. @The-red-centaur

I'm concerned that you can't get down any food or drink...no wonder you are shaking and feeling like you want to pass out (from your other thread). Is there anything that can be done about this?

I can imagine it's pretty awful, what you would say if you could. 😞 Sending you a gentle virtual hug, if that's OK...
