Self-care - Why can it be so hard?

Self-care - Why can it be so hard?

Hello lovely forumites. I'm helping out the Community Managers with some new threads and I thought it might be useful to talk about why self-care can be so hard at times.

Self-care is anything we purposely do to support our health and wellbeing, and a lot of us struggle with it. For some people it's not having much space in the day. For others there are thoughts that they don't deserve it, or that they shouldn't need it, or that it's self-indulgent...

Does anyone else experience this? What do you do to start to tune into that self-compassion and self-care?

@Former-Member @Shaz51

Knitting is one thing I can do to make use of the time whilst visiting Mr Darcy in hospital and I have started work on a project today.

i guess my tool is to be strong for my partner, if im well, i can help her more and care for her more.

she is my rock, she always knows when im tired and helps me to remember i need rest too. my world revolves around my partner and her daughters. so they are my strength, my tools and my insipration to look after myself.

My psychiatrist told me she had faxed through my prescriptions to my local chemist last Friday - I went there today and they haven't received anything. I understand it can be an internet thing- but I thought my psychiatrist would follow this up. Why should I have to do the work

Hey @Former-Member I love your toolkit 💜

@Former-Member some members have been reflecting on why it's difficult for them, and some people have mentioned that practical things like not having much time or the physical space gets in the way, or for other it might be beliefs about themselves or what they need to do to cope in this life that don't really mesh with the idea of self-care, and for others it might be that is just not how they learnt to relate to themselves. Would you be comfortable sharing any thoughts on why it's hard for you?
