A TIME FOR EVERYTHING There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the sun. A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time for decay and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones, a time to gather, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. - ECC -

Re: QUOTES THAT SETTLE MY MIND
ONE SOLITARY LIFE He was born in an obscure village The child of a peasant woman He grew up in another obscure village Where he worked in a carpenter shop Until he was thirty when public opinion turned against him He never wrote a book He never held an office He never went to college He never visited a big city He never travelled more than two hundred miles fom the place where he was born
He did none of the things usually associated with greatness He had no credentials but himself At only thirty three his friends ran away, one of them denied him. He was betrayed and turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of beatings and a public trial.
He was nailed to a cross between two thieves and while dying his executioners gambled for his clothing. And when he was dead He was laid in a borrowed grave, through the pity of a friend.
All the armies that have ever marched All the navies that have ever sailed All the parliaments that have ever sat All the kings that ever reigned put together - not one has affected all of mankind as powerfully as that one solitary life.
Okay - this is a story I read about many years ago - but it is true today as it was whenever it was first written or said
A king went to a wise man to know how his success for be remembered and the wise man got a bucket of water and told the king to put his clenched fist into it.
Then the king was told that the hole he left when he took his hand out of the water would be the sum of his life.
Maybe that was Alexander the Great - I don't know - but we do know about Alexander the Great but how has he affected our lives?
Just put your fist into a bucket of water and take you hand out and see for yourself
So - we can stop worrying about what other people think of us

Re: QUOTES THAT SETTLE MY MIND
I'm okay after Christmas @Former-Member - but like you having a bit of a slump.
For all my good intentions about going to bed early - I did not - I spent a good part of the evening lying on the couch with the cat and the cool air blowing in the front door - but I slept then - instead of after I went to bed.
My lounge is looking better than it has for heaven knows when - as I do my paperwork in here the paper accumulates and as I have written a couple of appointments on a piece of paper that was in the clutter on the couch I am going to have to ring a few people and check those dates - if I don't find the note papers
But now I have the paper off the couch and cleared all the old magazines of the shelf under the coffee table I am going to have this room looking tidy and shiny as it is now
So yes - I am joining you in the after-Christmas slump -
