QUOTES THAT SETTLE MY MIND

I think quotes and rhymes are a good and age-old way of carrying common sense and values teaching forward .... I know my head is still full of them from growing up amongst people who used them a lot .... and I come across new ones that appeal sometimes too.

My mother had a host of little rhymes - one might be a geography lesson for Scottish children on the Firths of Tay and Firth - in Scotland - of course

Maybe they are tongue twisters as well

The Firth of Tay

The Firth of Forth

The Forth is south

The Tay is north.

I have a family connection with the first Tay Bridge that came down in a bad storm in1875 - so chanting this impossible rhyme was meant to stop us asking questions I think

Try it - I still battle with it - but don't read it - remember it.

Also - if we wanted a story my mother would tell us two

I'll tell you the story of Old Mother Glory

And now that my story's begun

I'll tell you another about her brother

And now my story's done.

And out went the light and bang went the door
