Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Yes, I'm very happy with the new plan, inspired by you 🙂 Thanks for also being happy for me!

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better due to the meds arriving.

Lists aren't weird, they're essential! 😄 I am always making lists but due to making so many I'm not very good at crossing things off them, lol. I think it's a great idea for helping with motivation. Are you going to make a large list with everything you can think of on it, or a small daily list?

@NatureLover I'm thinking small daily lists I don't want to overwhelm myself with a huge list. Maybe 3 things I want to do for my wellbeing each day.
I haven't been for a walk all week and that's something I usually do daily and enjoy. I'm not sure what else.. eat real food maybe? 😂

How are you doing today? Weekend plans?

Of course I'm going to be happy for you. I understand what an achievement it is.

That sounds really positive. I have large lists and also small daily lists, and other scribbled notes all over my desk too...it gets muddling. So I think keeping it simple is a good idea.

I also like going for short walks...I crave getting out in nature. I need trees and green spaces. I've woken up with some rare energy though so I want to try to tackle the messy house today.

Re food - are you usually interested in food but not at the moment?

@NatureLover I love food... usually. This is all part of my depression.. at this time. Hurting someone I care for.. punish myself by various means. I'm aware I do it but I don't make a deliberate decision to do so. If you know what I mean.

Enjoy your energy today! Crank up the music and have fun! 😁

@Escaped_Goat I understand about the depression. And about the self-sabotage/ self punishment. I've had/ sometimes still do have both, although not usually with food as I'm a food addict. All I can do is offer a virtual hug (I hope that's acceptable - please ignore if not).

I hope your day today is bearable.

Virtual hug appreciated @NatureLover 🙃

Concerted efforts being made today to do 3 things that are good for me.

Hi, I'm reasonably new here. It's really good to talk with others with similar struggles as what I go through! I'm a bit OCD, & a bit of a germ-a-phob. I always wash up & I like my house to be in a certain order too, which bugs my beautiful teenage girl I think. Cause she just doesn't see the need to keep her room tidy & put things away!☺️

@JoJo173 My daughter was the same when she lived at home. I had to learn to respect her space (her room) in order for her to respect my space (the rest of the house 😂) and guess what... bedrooms have doors! 😲 I know right? Took me a while to figure out I could simply close her door and pretend that room didn't exist.

Thanks for saying what you did @Escaped_Goat . I'm learning to ignore my girls 'mess' & concentrate on the rest of the house. It's more fun when she has a friend over for sleepovers! I mostly ignore the lounge room until her friend goes home, than I clean up. Occasionally my girl cleans up her room & does a major room renavotion in the process! Cleaning up is hard somedays, but I'm thankful I have a daughter to clean up after! I wouldn't change it for the world! She's a good girl, beautiful inside & out & I'm a very blessed mumma! That saying, it can be hard to remember all that on my hard days.☺️

Hi and welcome, @JoJo173 . It's nice to meet another germaphobe! Although I am sorry that you have it.

Well done for trying to look after yourself, @Escaped_Goat 🙂 Not always easy, I know.
