Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

@Escaped_Goat how did you go today with trying to do 3 things to look after yourself?

I did some cleaning and tidying and laundry and my "one item per day".

@NatureLover not as successful as you. You are doing great!

I ate healthy food. That's it.

Aiming for two things today... maybe three was setting my goals too high. 😂

Hi @Escaped_Goat , am happy to see you. Well done on eating healthy food! That is a victory when you're depressed. One or two things today will also be a victory. 🙂

Thanks for your encouragement, yeah I ended up having a productive day yesterday. Not so sure about today though, but my "one a day" will be a priority.

@NatureLover It's Sunday. If you're not productive today there's that... 😂

I still have another week before I can start doing activities besides walking and light housework and even then I have to ease into things slowly. I think once the top-up meds kick in and I can start doing normal stuff again I might have a better chance of pushing through this dark patch.

Good news/bad news is that the supermarket has restarted click and collect so I don't need to go shopping where germs are or be tempted by junk food but the bad part of that is I'm not challenging myself so I'll have to find other ways.

That's true @Escaped_Goat , Sundays are always quiet here so it's easier to be quiet too and just read and eat and walk and not do any housework.

I agree, if you are limited in your activities then it's harder to distract yourself. I hurt my knee in January and it was then that the house got messy as I couldn't stand up to do the washing up, etc. It was OK as I live by myself so I could get away with it 🙂 I think it's good that we have both joined this forum recently as it's a good (and hopefully helpful) distraction for us both, plus hopefully provides a connection right when it's needed. I feel a connection with you for which I'm grateful, as I'm not having my usual face-to-face interations due to lockdown.

You are really brave to want to be challenging yourself at this time of darkness and difficulty. I remember my nervous breakdown (severe depression) which lasted 3 years - I spent them in bed and challenging myself was the last thing on my mind. How long will it take to order your groceries and have them delivered though? If it takes a week or two to have them delivered then you might still have to go out, up till the point when you are allowed to be more active.

@NatureLover Thank you! I feel the same. It's nice to have someone understand without having to explain in detail. As you say a good distraction and important connection to have. I feel fortunate to have run into you here but I do believe that people are meant to cross paths for a reason. You've provided support at a time I've needed it and made me feel less alone.. so than you!

I know from past experience that if I don't challenge myself when I least feel like it I will spiral further down and need to start from scratch and I'm getting too old for that 😝

As far as groceries I can order them online and get them same day... it's click and collect so I either need to go pick them up but they load them into the car so that's nice... or my son said he will pick them up when he finishes work if that's easier for me.

Thank you for your kind words @Escaped_Goat . I'm happy you feel less alone - me too. 🙂 Thank you.

I'm not so convinced that everything happens for a reason - I get troubled by e.g. 1-year-old kids with leukaemia - what good enough reason could there be for that? There is none. But I acknowledge that sometimes paths do cross for a reason.

I'm impressed you make a practice of challenging yourself when you least feel like it. That shows you are a strong person, I reckon. I just had to go and lie down for an hour and a half! I hope I can tackle my "one item" and some tidying in the kitchen today....that will be my challenge. Am going to go out for a short walk now though, in between rain showers.

I got muddled and forgot it was click and collect, sorry. I hope you can get everything you need that way.

@NatureLover I agree that not everything happens for a reason... take me for example.
But the crossing paths I do believe in.

How did you go with you one item a day? Did you enjoy your walk?

I ate healthy again and showered! I count that as a win given that I missed showering yesterday. I was going to go for a walk but didn't.

Yay! You did your two things for wellbeing, well done! 🙂 @Escaped_Goat And as for showering daily, it's kinda optional when you're not going out anywhere, I reckon.

Not sure I quite understand...? (No need to explain if you'd rather not)

I did my one item to throw out, but the rest wasn't a success today. I'll try again tomorrow. Yes, I enjoyed my 2 walks today, it was great to get outside and made me feel a bit better.

Thanks @NatureLover I'm glad I got my shower in today. Had a good cry while I was there. Shower crying doesn't count right?

The not everything happens for a reason... just questioning what my reason for being is I guess. You know... was I born just to hurt? Wondering why some people have such happy carefree lives and others struggle?

Sorry... just not a happy day. Went across the yard to see the daughter-in-law and she was on the phone so came back to my place figuring maybe she'd pop in when she got off the phone. Really needed the company and we count as one household for virus purposes. Got a message 90 minutes later that she'd only just got off the phone and was about to make dinner and sorry she couldn't talk.

I always feel like I'm the last choice anyone would make.

I'm so glad you did your one item and got out in nature. Sunday was a win!
