Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Thanks, @tyme . My S.A.D. has hit a few months early this year. But my iron infusion has given me some energy.

Thanks for telling me about your possible surgery, @Dimity .

Thanks for telling me a bit more about how you feel. I can hear that you're not coping 😥 No wonder you're tired of being miserable. I really feel for you. 🫂

I was sad to infer that you might be comparing your achievements to your widowed friend? You have a lot of things to try to cope with that she might not have.

Yes, I settled on two sensitive soaps, one for the shower and one for the bathroom basin.

A work day today, but I need to pop out at 8am to the bakery, post office box and supermarket for more crumpets.

Good luck with your decision about whether to pursue psychology or a support worker.

Sending care ❤️

Hello @NatureLover I hope the workday and errands went well. Quite a busy day for you.

I woke last night from bad nightmares and subsequently realised my situation is the actually the same as the finale of those awful nightmares. A sobering thought.

My difficult family member seems quite unwell but I don't know what to do without upsetting them.

I did grocery shopping and ate at the shopping centre. Tired and foggy but perhaps my infection is starting to resolve. Just as well, I've nearly finished a double course of strong antibiotics.

This weekend is a mystery to me. I can't think that far ahead. I hope you can start dogwalking, enjoy your garden and maybe complete your tidying efforts. No doubt you'll be reading too.

Thanks, @Dimity , my work day and errands went well.

I find the weekends long and depressing though. No dog walking on weekends for the foreseeable future. Maybe dog walking during the week though, with different dogs.

Your nightmares sound awful 😥

I'm glad though that your infection seems a bit better. I hope you won't need a third course of antibiotics. And do you have some probiotics for after you've finished the antibiotics?

This weekend I need to try and activate my anti-virus on my computer, laptop and phone. I've been paying for it for years, but yesterday got an email saying it hasn't been activated! Technology is so confusing 😣

I hope you can settle on something you'd like to do this weekend.

I can relate to the low IRON!!!! After I got my iron levels sorted, I perked right up! When I've had a long period of lethargy, someone on the forums then reminds me I need to check my iron - so thank you @NatureLover 🙂

I should go back to taking iron before I need another infusion!

I hope the S.A.D. improves. Sounds so so difficult.

@Dimity , thinking about you and everything going on for you at the moment.

Thanks @NatureLover @tyme .

Yes I have probiotics thanks.

Things are really worrying with a family member who seems to need help. But everyone tells me to abandon them. Someone tonight suggested I ring Lifeline for myself. But I'm safe and don't see how they could help.

Long depressing weekends sound like my weeks. I'm sorry I don't have any good suggestions! But I empathise

I still haven't set up my new phone.

Please do what's right for you. I'd hate to see someone being abandoned who needs help. But I don't know the situation so I hope you do whatever you feel is right @Dimity

@Dimity @NatureLover - true about probiotics. I have them nicely sitting in the cupboard lol. I really need to remember to take things like probiotics and iron! Thank goodness of the reminders from the forums community!

What phone is your new phone? Recently, I found Apple is very easy to set up. You just put your own device next to the new one and it automatically transfers all the data. How technology can be so scary but also so clever. I was joking around with someone yesterday, saying that when I was a kid, we had to sit in the kitchen, next to a wall and talk on a corded phone that was attached to the wall! Everyone heard your conversation! And now? the world is at our fingertips!

I've been trying to hang in there @tyme but my people aren't supporting me in it. I can't keep going like this. Apologies

@NatureLover whose thread has been a bit hijacked by my whinging.

My new phone is another basic Samsung but I don't know if the old phone is backed up to the cloud, and my sim card is broken so might not be transferable. The Samsung authorised place was unpleasant when I asked for help on something a while back but I think I'll have to try again.

I'm trying to get some chores and admin stuff done today, to catch up.

I read an interesting article on EMDR today, it talked about the evidence base but stressed eye movement rather than other forms of bilateral stimulation. Being blind in one eye might need other approaches.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi @Dimity , I hadn't thought about your blindness in one eye possibly affecting the outcome of the EMDR. 😣

I've woken up depressed. Am still in bed at 8.25am. I'm due to have lunch with a friend today and need a shower and hair wash. I hope I'm up to socialising.

Good luck setting up your new phone - always stressful, I find.
