Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

So sorry to hear this @NatureLover . And I'm thinking the tree incident hasn't helped. Can you think of anything we can do to help you through this?

Please know we appreciate you and are here for you. We hear how hard things are for you.

Well done on your efforts @NatureLover . I'm sorry it's all so hard. Yes you were lucky it was just the verandah roof but it's a shame about the outdoor furniture.

My admission is Friday. The very onerous dietary restrictions and fasting start Tuesday. I've already increased my psych meds anticipating I won't cope.

I'm struggling a bit at the moment and taking things quietly, postponing some forum replies.

Take care.

Oh gosh @Dimity re your difficult dietary restrictions and fasting for 3 days 😲

I am sending wishes that you do cope 🤞

I slowly managed to get the bedroom, lounge-room and bathroom done on the weekend. All except scrubbing the shower, which is too much at the moment. Today have to tackle the kitchen which is piled high with stuff on the bench. All of it needs disinfecting, shredding, storing, etc.

Conceivably the landlord could come inside today, to check inside the roof space for damage to the roof. He hasn't often given notice in the past when checking the meter by the front door. But I'm hoping he comes tomorrow instead.

Sorry you're struggling...sending care ❤

Hi @Dimity , how are you feeling? Any signs of psychosis?

I've done most of the kitchen except the washing up and the small bench. The landlord didn't come yesterday, thankfully. Going to attempt to leave the house this morning. Have only been able to leave the house once in the last 10 days, despite trying.

Today your diet restrictions start...good luck. Will you be going to your exercise class today?

I'm riding it out so far thanks @NatureLover . Exercise group was good, I'm disappointed by my limitations but do what I can.

I think you're showing courage by doing what you can. I hope you can get the internet connection fixed soon for your work.

Was it one of the liquidambars? Around here a lot of the street trees are ornamental pears that are very brittle and forever shedding limbs.

Hi @Dimity , yes it was a huge liquid ambar. Apparently the other half of the crown is about to fall the other way at any point 😣

I'm glad your exercise group went well. 🙂

I didn't manage to leave the house yesterday - again. My neighbour is lending me her internet connection, and I'm paying her.

I've now done the whole house except for scrubbing the shower. I feel ready for the landlord (will shut bathroom door). Got a lunch out today - will be hard to leave the house after pretty much 2 weeks at home except for one day. (9 weeks since got sick.) I do plan to scrub the shower, just not today.

Hoping your fears don't eventuate about becoming ill with psychosis before / after your hospital stay 🤞

How are you today @NatureLover @Dimity ?

@NatureLover , is your verandah getting repaired?

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Congrats on getting so much done in the house @NatureLover. I'm glad you have internet. Gosh 9 weeks with the asthma etc. I knew it had been quite a while. No wonder your mh has been troubling, and you had all the uncertainty and angst over different jobs earlier. I'm sure external stressors tip us over when we're vulnerable.

Is there anywhere less threatening you can go to start going out again? An easy drive to somewhere safe? I guess it's not that simple. I wonder what strategies you've used before.

I'm feeling a bit queasy, as expected. The next couple of days will really test me.

The liquidambar must have been a grand old tree. I guess the whole thing will have to come down, and you might need to get the other trees assessed. What a big change for the garden.

Hello @tyme. Sorry I've been grumpy. .
