Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Sorry to hear about your seasonal allergies, @Dimity .

I didn't make it to the library to work yesterday, but I did make it to Bunnings and the supermarket.

Not feeling very motivated today 😣

Good luck for your day.

@NatureLover finding motivation can be hard. I try to settle for activation but get diverted and distracted especially when uninspired which is most of the time

I'm muddling on but keep getting thrown by family stuff happening. I'm just not getting anywhere. Well, perhaps small steps. The 2 shelves of stuff I cleared - when sorted and put back - took up only 1 shelf.

I intend to start on some boxes and bags. Or maybe the hall cupboard.

I hope your motivation returns.

Thanks, @Dimity .

Well done on getting rid of one shelf's worth of stuff. 👏

I worked at my job yesterday instead of facing the housework! I enjoy it much more than tackling the house.

I don't yet know what to tackle today. That's always a danger as I might not tackle anything. I must try to make a list for today of chores.

Am also going to water the garden as the light drizzle this morning is not enough to soak in.

Good luck with your tasks today 🤞

Hello @NatureLover I'm glad you had a productive day yesterday. Your work is important!

I'm not as diligent as I should be with watering. I'm dreading the coming heat.

Today I didn't push myself. I dabbled in chores, gardening and decluttering, in short stints. I dealt with a dreaded box! Now my next goal is to fill an empty box with books to donate, to justify a taxi to the op shop to offload the other stuff I've sorted lately. It will give me more confidence to keep going.

I hope you'll be able to face inspection preparation and the bottomless shed soon, as you'd hoped. The angry neighbour might get a key at any time.

@Dimity thanks - I'd forgotten about the angry neighbour!

I achieved nothing again yesterday as I worked all day again at my job. Planning to again today, but also to at least do the watering, which I didn't do yesterday. Like you I'm dreading this week's heatwave.

Well done tackling a box! And it would be very satisfying to drop off stuff to the opp shop. I haven't done that for a long time.

I had a good night's sleep but have woken up depressed. Not sure why. Maybe my avoidance.

Sounds like you had a satisfactory day yesterday. Wishing you the same for today.

It's interesting you're working weekends and holiday periods @NatureLover - perhaps that's the nature of the charity sector work you do.

I pulled together a box of books today then took a full taxi bootload to the opshop. I hope they can sell or give away the stuff as the return taxi fare isn't cheap. As usual my decluttering has had very little impact. Vyt I'll persevere.

Good luck with chores and errands when you're ready.

Hi @Dimity , that's great you took a bootload to the opp shop! I'm sad you don't feel it's made much difference, as you were hoping it would encourage you. You're very hard on yourself. 😥

I got an extra project to do at work - a year's worth of invoices to process. I've nearly caught up on those now and will probably finish them today. I could've taken them slower, but as I said, I'm avoiding the housework!

There are no bags on the floor, but the long kitchen bench is pretty full. I do want to clean out the stuff in the fridge today.

I have 34 books out on loan and have pressure to return them! Three have reserves on them due back soon. I've started listening to audiobooks as they are part of a series. I find it depends on the narrator whether I like them or not. Do you like audiobooks?

The hot weather is here, with worse to come.

Good luck with your day today.

@NatureLover I guess because most of the stuff I took to the opshop came from cupboards and boxes it didn't lessen the visual clutter much. It was still worth doing.

Wow you're a real bòoklover. I'm impressed. I've only listened to one audio book. I enjoyed it but found I was needing to carry my tablet from room to room.

I've just started a light whodunit.i want to read more this year.

I'm waàay behind on chores again. They build up quickly if I'm not onto them every day. Today I had exercise group and two very long catch-up phone calls, and watered. And wasted/lost time as usual.

Take care, stay cool (if you can).

How was your exercise group? @Dimity

I agree about having to carry your phone / tablet from room to room when listening to audiobooks.

I wasn't online this morning as I watered both front and back gardens then went grocery shopping. It was already hot early.

I have airconditioning, but quite often we lose power in the town I live in. Do you lose power much?

Hoping we can all stay cool... 🤞

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

I rarely lose power @NatureLover but a few weeks ago there was an outage for maintenance on a pole in my street.

The exercise part was OK thanks, the morning tea catch-up afterwards s was a bit awkward. Hopefully my rusty social skills will improve.

i didn't finish the chores today. But giving myself permission to read is a novelty. My eyesight isn't good but now I know it won't improve I'll try to make the most of it.

I watered this evening. The backyard needs lots of work...

Enjoy tomorrow before the extreme heat returns Friday.
