Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

You're right, it was a lovely day yesterday. But I wimped out of contacting my dog-walking friend. I feel I might be a bother, if the friend doesn't want to see me as much any more. 😥

Not all of my friends use social media, but I keep up with quite a few on there.

Well done on tackling the decluttering. I'm psyching up to facing the boxes in the shed in January hopefully 🤞

Well done on the sweeping too.

I'm going to catch up on some work today. What do you have planned? Good luck...

Hi @NatureLover it sounds a little awkward with your dogwalking friend. I guess spending personal time like lunches and walks is a different level to workplace collegiality, and they're reclaiming that space/distance. I text with some old colleagues but have noone I spend personal time with, and it feels lonely.

I have no real plans for today other than wanting some selfcare. I'll try to read a little and potter in house and garden, then walk.

Enjoy your day... hope you get through the work you're aiming for.

That's exciting that you actually want to read, @Dimity 🙂

And I hope the self care does you good.

I was lonely before I started volunteering and made some new friends. Hopefully the craft group you mentioned and the other social group will help.

It turned out that after breakfast I didn't want to work at my job, so I have been working on the house for 4 hours! Including jobs that I've been putting off.

I hope you enjoy your walk today - it feels nice and warm out there.

Well done on the housework @NatureLover . 4 + hours is very good... especially as you've been maintaining the place in good order.

I did a bit of cleaning and decluttering then spent an hour picking up a big bag of litter. A neighbour in the next street stopped me for a chat and to thank me.

I tried to hoe some weeds but didn't get far, I'm not very fit. I'll have to get back to it.

Good luck with work tomorrow.

Thanks, @Dimity . It was a good feeling to finally tackle tasks I'd been putting off for ages.

I didn't do the vacuuming, however (which is needed). I have a friend possibly coming over in a week's time though, so need to do it soon. I avoid it as it gives me asthma attacks.

Cleaning plus decluttering plus picking up litter sounds like a productive day for you.

I've never tried to do weeding with a hoe before. Is it easier than bending down to weed by hand?

Raining solidly here this morning so no walk. I wonder if you'll get your walk today - I think the rain is due to clear in the afternoon.

Hello @NatureLover yes, I walked to the shops. It was nice to have the rain and I got into the garden for a couple of hours after it stopped.

I thought hoeing might be easier but the ground was hard yesterday. And I've lost condition in my arms so I couldn't do much. I might try again when the ground's softer.

Tomorrow I have my first group session. It will be an earlier start than I'm used to.

Do you wear a faxe mask when vacuuming? It might help.

Oooh, what group session is it? A social group? I hope it goes well 🙂

I hadn't actually thought about using a face mask when vacuuming - I'll try it.

I'm glad you got your walk and some quality time in the garden.

Today I have too many errands: 7 stops!

Thinking of you with your first group session and getting up early.

Hope you managed to get through most if not all your errands @NatureLover .

It was a social group under the auspices of a service provider. A bit underwhelming and my conversation skills were sadly lacking. And showed my ineptitude re general life experience. Oh well.

It went on to be a difficult day. And events overtook my walk. It's too late to cook. I'm feeling rattled.

I'll try to unwind.

Physiotherapy tomorrow. Hopefully things will seem less of a muddle.

Hi @Dimity , I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the social group. Will you persevere, do you think? How often do they meet?

Sorry too that you missed your walk and that it was a difficult day 🫂

I got all my errands done yesterday, but 2 more popped up last night for this morning. I'll leave shortly, before the weather hits.

Going to be wild weather with severe winds this afternoon - do you think you'll attempt to walk?

Good luck with the physio today.

The group meets fortnightly @NatureLover . I'll play it by ear.

Only twigs down during the windstorm thank goodness.

I'm struggling a bit. Barely able to get much done. I need to complete some forms for the psychologist before I see her. The physio discharged me, I've had more than my quota of sessions.

Hope you're feeling a bit better.
