Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

OK, a cleaning day it is. It will be nice to get back to normal after the upheaval of having no internet and getting it fixed.

See, not meeting that person has helped you! And you don't need to spend money on a gym membership if you're surrounded by hills.

I'm overweight but I'm happy with my weight and not seeking to lose any. Not unless /until it affects my health, anyway.

I hope you can get warm tonight and sleep well. @Escaped_Goat

@NatureLover I think people should be whatever weight they are comfortable with as long as they are happy and healthy. I had to lose weight for my health and still need to lose a little more but it's been hard lately. It will happen.. my doctor is happy with how I'm doing. He's in charge of the numbers.

I hope you have a good sleep tonight. Don't forget to turn off the light 💡🙂

Exactly, I agree @Escaped_Goat .

You sound like you have been doing well with losing weight for your health. It's good you have such a good relationship with your doctor.

I'm afraid I kind of stuffed up last night regarding switching off the lights and getting actually into bed...so I have to start again tonight.

Keep warm!

@NatureLover did you sleep well? I slept okay.

It's cold and yucky out so a good day for staying home and doing housework 😂

I am going to make an effort to eat more than once a day. It might mean toddler sized meals but I need to be healthier.

Coffee time then eat something and decided where to start cleaning...

Oh gosh, I had a bad night - but it was entirely my own fault, as I didn't actually make it into bed all night! I just slept in my clothes and had bad dreams with the lights on till 2am. Now I feel all yucky and will have a shower soon and wash my clothes.

I'm glad you slept OK, that's good to hear.

I think eating small and more frequently sounds good, @Escaped_Goat . I am here to support you if you want (if I can). 🙂

You really helped me yesterday, and as a result I feel more back to normal today thankfully. I'm not sure where to start my cleaning...maybe with the washing up as that's nice and easy and you don't have to think too much to do it.

Oh no! @NatureLover Hope you make it through the day on little sleep. Coffee helps! 😂

I had a slice of crumpet toast... it's disappointingly not very crumpetty but it's nice enough.. with jam. For energy? 😂 I'm not sure there's any nutrients in jam. Or crumpet toast for that matter.. not off to a great start am I? Took my meds and realised I need to go to the pharmacy today or I won't have any tomorrow. Not what I wanted to do but maybe if the air outside stops feeling like a wet blanket I'll walk down there later.

I started on the dishes and sink area too... emptied dishwasher and put last nights and this mornings dishes in.. scrubbed the sink, backsplash and bench and the shelf above then checked the cupboard underneath to make sure it was tidy, wiped the front of that and the dishwasher, emptied the bin and cleaned that. Now I'm watering myself and plotting my next move.

@Escaped_Goat Yes, I've had 2 coffees, but actually I slept most of the night, just uncomfortably. It's partly to do with 2 trespassers we had about 5 weeks ago, throwing stuff around the yard and hammering on my and the neighbours' doors in the early hours. I had to call the police in the night, and it's made me feel vulnerable about getting into my night clothes and into bed. I have spoken about the incident with my psychologist, but I will discuss with her at the next appointment about finding it hard to go to bed properly in the dark.

I haven't had my shower or done any cleaning yet as I've had a bit of a shock this morning with one of the suicidal people I've been trying to support on the forums attempting suicide last night. They are still here, thankfully. I know this is the risk with trying to support suicidal people. But I still think it's important for me to try. I am OK and going to have my shower after this.

I've never heard of crumpet toast...but I think you ARE off to a great start as you've had breakfast! Well done! And you're also going great guns with your cleaning too 🙂 (I liked the "plotting your next move" 😄 )

Good luck with your numbers getting out of the house today...I know you said they've been nice and low lately, hope that continues.

@NatureLover Yikes! I know exactly how that feels unfortunately. Not exactly the same circumstances but there was a time when I felt unsafe in my own home and the kids were still home then so I felt I had to be brave and hide my fears but I wasn't. That was when my counting skyrocketed and in order to get the kids where they had to be I had to make them wait outside while I did the rounds because if one of them said anything like.. Mum hurry we're going to be late... I'd have to start again. My kids are actually surprisingly normal for having grown up observing my mental illnesses and breakdowns. They are probably not as laid back as I would wish for them but their stress levels are in the normal range still.. high normal but not extreme.

Sorry to hear about the shock you're dealing with. I couldn't do what you're doing... make sure you take care of yourself.

Oh gosh, @Escaped_Goat - I really hope I haven't inadvertently mentioned something triggering for you? I mean with feeling unsafe in the home, and the counting and checking... 😞

Thanks, I am looking after myself - I went for a walk, and feel better after my shower and hairwash, and am lying down now for a rest before lunch and washing up. The washing machine is on, doing the work for me as I rest. I think I feel strong enough to try to support suicidal people at the moment...but we will see how that goes.

What has your plotting for the afternoon come up with? 🙂

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

@NatureLover No.. not triggered. I'm just empathetic to what you're going through feeling unsafe and hope you can find a way through it.

I went down to get my meds. I'm going to have some soup before I tackle the rest of the tasks for the day. I think I'm going to dust at the very least. I have some folding to do and a coat hook to hang up. I will probably watch a movie while I lunch. Break the day up 😂
