Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Hello @NatureLover . This is my third attempt at replying to you. Over the last couple of days it seems two earlier posts disappeared without trace.

Sorry to hear about your poor sore hands. Hopefully as we pass the equinox your hands and SAD will resolve.

The new home help (if confirmed) comes on alternate Thursdays .

I'm struggling at the moment. My efforts to work with the banks and solicitor have stalled, the family problems seem insurmountable and memories of past trauma and violence are resurfacing (although there's not much in common except powerlessness and lack of a sense of a homebase where I belong and lack of emotional support - feeling very much alone). And I've had a troublesome health issue recently.

Sorry to whinge.

Hello @scruffypuffball . Good to see you again.

Sorry to hear you had an irrational response to your face mask. I think Covid restrictions triggered a lot of people and we're still seeing the aftermath.

Hope you still have your dog -

Hello @Shaz51 .

Thanks for posting even if they didn't come through, @Dimity . Am relieved to see your post.

But I'm sorry everything is so troublesome 😢 Especially the new health issue 😢

You're not whinging, you're expressing how things are for you, which I appreciate. Hard to have a friendship without that.

So hopefully you will get a confirmation that the new home help will come this Thursday?

My hands improved after slathering them in a rich cream 2 days ago and not moving for hours till it all soaked in. I made myself read a book. My hands were alarming! Now they're just super-dry and with a few cuts, not hundreds. (Moderator: tiny cuts from how dry my skin is - not SH.) I need to do the cream again tonight.

I've been tidying and cleaning. Events have been conspiring to keep the house neat! First the rental inspection, then the smoke detector check, now my friend coming round today. I won't have time to vacuum before he comes, but the rest of the house is neat and clean except the bathroom. I have 1 more hour to do the bathroom and scrub the shower, before I need to get ready to go out for lunch. He's coming straight after lunch. Eek!

But I wanted to reply to you as soon as I saw your message.

Hope today goes better for you, my friend 🤞

@scruffypuffball I hear you re your abusive brother. I guess there's not much you can do about his medication compliance except call the CATT team if there's a crisis. Are you safe?

I'm concerned for the well-being of a family member too, and it impacts the mh and wellbeing of me and others.

Glad the cream helped your hands @NatureLover . Good luck with the cleaning and visit. Hope you're not stressed and can enjoy seeing your frIend.

I'll try to face the day starting with breakfast and cleaning up after the cat. I'll do my best to avoid sitting doomscrolling. I think I crave connection and feeling informed but get lost in it.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

@Dimity I am safe for now. The gp practice wrote discharged him on the day he was due for the injection. That means they are not responsible for calling the catt team themselves. They literally threw me under the bus. At the same time, if he is threatening them they have to protect themselves. I called nurse on call and they said it is the practice that is responsible for calling the catt team. My psych is on leave still, I dont see her until later this week and will consult with her then. I dont have family or even security devices at my house for protection. If i call the catt team he will direct his violence at me instead of his gp so I want to avoid that.

@Dimity I think what angered me the most is the fact that I believe she was following me around and planned her actions, it was so predatory and now I have to look over my shoulder every time i shop for necessities. I can see why people just order delivery, but I want fresh produce. Anyway, the so called trauma of covid did not influence her behaviour. I have trauma but I leave people alone. This was about power. She was trying to impose her will on me, it didnt matter if I get hurt or chronically ill as a result. She wont be there protecting me from my brother or paying my bills if I become unable to work. It was her power trip for the day. I dont think I am the first person she has targeted and wont be the last.

Seems like abnegation of responsibility by the gp practice @scruffypuffball . I think you're entitled to call the CATT team or police if you're worried for your safety... I recognise it could escalate things if not yet at crisis point.

Resistance to Covid measures seemed to coincide with the emergence of the sovereign citizen movement and drew in some people with highly problematic ideas and behaviours. I'm not trying to excuse her behaviour. Deliberately coughing on you borders on assault.

@Dimity "drew in some people with highly problematic ideas and behaviours" omg yes this. My brother was following that movement and he is a diagnosed psychopath, so yes you hit the nail on the head with that. i love that comment. For predators crisis is opportunity, (cynical power grab, it does not matter who they hurt in the process)

Crisis is opportunity for positive change too, but power trippers aren't wired for that.
