Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Hello @NatureLover I'm getting ready for physio this morning but can check in this afternoon.

Good luck! Tackling some bags?

Hi @Dimity , I look forward to chatting this afternoon about our tasks and how we're progressing.

Am working from one end of the house to the other as a way to gradually work up to doing the bags/kitchen.

I hope your physio session goes well...

I've done the easier tasks: bedroom, tidying my desk, cleaning the aircon filters (which they will check), the washing up and clearing the small kitchen bench.

Still to clear the large kitchen bench, the kitchen floor, and clean the bathroom basin. I estimate 4 hours to go, and that's without disinfecting all the items on the kitchen bench and floor. Looks like I might have to put stuff in the shed. 😣

Sounds like you're doing well so far @NatureLover . I've done a number of errands and just got home. I'll unpack the shopping and get a cuppa before tidying.

OK, @Dimity . Was your physio appt OK?

I'm having lunch.

Hi @Dimity , I'm finished. I cheated and packed up stuff in a box. It only came to one box luckily.

How are you going?

Well done @NatureLover .

Council rang and I found I had to cancel tomorrow's home help. They wanted to bring it forward to a time that clashed with an important appointment. So lazy Dimity procrastinated about tidying and did some other stuff instead. Organising medical scans and and enquiring about donating a big stash of heritage stuff (which would be a big decluttering win). Now I'm gazing in dismay at the clutter I didn't tidy.

I got 6 or 7 things done while I was out earlier, including the physio. But I feel I've let you down.

You haven't let me down at all, @Dimity ! It really helped me, knowing I was going to be reporting my progress to you. So thank you ❤

And I would've done the exact same thing, put off the cleaning.

Both your achievements sound huge to me - well done. Plus the 6 or 7 errands, plus the physio! 👏 A massive day of achievements.

Does this mean you have an important appt tomorrow? Best of luck...

P.S. My vision went a bit wonky and fuzzy at about 4.30. This is the second time it's happened - it lasted about 30 minutes each time. Luckily I already have an ophthalmologist appt booked in about 2 weeks' time.

That's no good about your eyesight @NatureLover . Might be medical rather than eyes per se. My eyes.were wonky earlier too. I've tried asking my optometrist and gp but haven't got anywhere. I see my eye surgeon for review in a couple of months but he's not a general ophthalmologist.

I'm sorry you have that too 😭 Your vision is already difficult. @Dimity 😥

Thanks for telling me it might be medical rather than an eye problem.

I hope your eye surgeon has some ideas. How often is it happening to you?
