Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Double posting after my post to you last night to say good morning @Escaped_Goat , how did you sleep last night? I hope the pain let you sleep...

I've just finished six(!) slices of toast - don't worry, they were the thin store-bought ones - slathered with thick Promite. I must need B vitamins or something as I can't get enough Promite lately. I'd eat it by the spoonful if I could. I do have an addictive personality and get food obsessions regularly... I'm lucky that I've never had illegal drugs, but then again my brain does it for me with the dissociating over the years.

The thing about food addiction is that it's bad in that you can't go cold turkey on food like you can with alcohol or drugs, but good in that you have to stop eating at some point as you're full. Otherwise I'd polish off the loaf of bread and the jar of Promite right now lol.

I am really hoping you can get an appointment today with the dentist. Good luck...

@NatureLover I'm always weird about waiting ages for appointments because I feel like I need help now and might not then sort of thing... no matter what the appointment type is for.

I like trying new foods even pretend foods 😂 They come in handy when feeding non-vegetarians. I don't eat them on a regular basis because of the cost but if they go on clearance I'm in! My son is manager so he lets me know stuff. 😂

@NatureLover I slept. Too long. I'm feeling all muddled today. Did not want to get up at all. My son was messaging me then my daughter and granddaughter weekly video chat was on and then I had to have yesterday's shower because I had oiled my hair. 😂 I remembered to take my meds then went shopping but everything was taking me ages.. starting to feel panicky in shops again which I haven't for over a year. I'm hoping all these negative feelings I'm getting are the increase in meds doing weird things and will settle... I'm thinking it was a year ago I had my last increase. I will ask the doctor when he calls at the end of the week.

Six slices of toast! If only I was ever that hungry! I love my Vegemite. I've only just had breakfast... yes... at 2pm. A slice of banana bread.

Freaked out about making phone calls today so no appointments have been made.

Good morning @Escaped_Goat ! I'm back now with a working phone. I tagged you on another thread yesterday to let you know I had no phone. I still have no internet but an NBN fault technician is coming tomorrow afternoon thankfully. I was a bit panicky yesterday with no communications at all...I get severe unpredictable asthma so had no way of even texting an ambulance if needed - it was scary.

How are you this morning? It sounds like you had an anxious day yesterday...being panicky in shops is no fun. Is that because people weren't keeping their distance? Or possible germs?

6 slices of toast is very unusual for me; it was because I'm craving Promite. Only 4 slices this morning, hehe.

If you made an appointment now with your therapist, could you cancel it when the time comes if it's not needed then?

I hope today is better for you. I really need to do some housework today...

@NatureLover that would have been scary not having any way to call for help if something happened. I'm so glad you are back with communication today and the nbn will be sorted soon.

My panic yesterday was a bit of everything.. I popped into Woolworths which isn't my usual choice but I had been in big w and they are in the same centre and I only needed a couple of items. For some reason Woolworths is filling shelves during the day which means big cages and staff using space and causing shoppers to bottleneck and we aren't doing one way aisles here which means not keeping distance at all. Being a bigger town meant more people than I generally see but I haven't had crowd issues for ages and it's not what most people would call a crowd anyway. Plus the germs were bugging me because a lot of older people were coughing and I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything they might just have dry throats but I felt unable to breathe... I felt like the air was thick with germs. Oh and the sanitizer they are using in Woolworths.... it makes me sneeze 🤧 so anytime I did take a breath I had a sneezing fit. So at least I know why my hands were itchy too.

😂 I hope 4 slices is enough for your promite cravings.

Today will be better because I'm not leaving the house! I have laundry to do. I probably should wipe surfaces I touched in my car in case I left traces of the sanitiser.

Thanks 🙂

That's not good that people weren't keeping their distance in Woolworths yesterday. I hate that feeling that the air is thick with germs...so distressing. And the cleaning up afterwards (like in your car) takes so long. Do you have your own sanitiser you can take /use?

I'm not sure I've had enough Promite this morning so I think I'll be having more toast for lunch lol. 😄

How's your tooth today?

Hi @Escaped_Goat am a bit worried that you might have had a distressing and pain-filled day. I hope you're OK and are just having a break from the forums. Sending you all my best wishes.
