Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

I do recall nbn working weekends when they were here but that was a long time ago so I'm not sure what they are doing these days.

OK, that's hopeful, thanks.

I've decided to talk to my psychologist about my fear of the dark as it's affecting my lifestyle every night.

I think I will just potter about today doing whatever I feel like doing in terms of tidying and cleaning. It will all help.

Enjoy your walk and whatever fun thing you decide to do... @Escaped_Goat

@NatureLover I did the hill walk again. I'm going to keep doing it until I stop panting at the top. 😂 So that's my new walk goal.

How's the pottering going? Get a night light... I had a horrible time with the dark for a number of years. Had a light on in the hallway for a while then a soft light that would turn off after a set time. Got to wean yourself off the light. Don't expect too much all at once if it causes anxiety.

Thanks. I like the idea of a soft light that turns itself off after a set time. Might try that.

Well done on your big hill walk! Do you take Poppy or is it too much for her?

Been actually enjoying my pottering so far today...am having a rest right now.

Hi @Escaped_Goat , just wondering how your afternoon went? How is the pain from your tooth?

I didn't get much done around the house but was out in the sunshine a lot, so that was good. I get my next month's mobile data allowance tomorrow, which is good too as there's been no news on the internet.

I hope you are OK and can get some good sleep tonight despite the pain.

@NatureLover Good morning. Hope you had a good night.

I'm managing my tooth pain okay... one more sleep then I can call them again.

Afternoon was okay... didn't do a lot. Can't remember now 😂

I went for the hill early today... oh yeah I did the hill yesterday! It was freezing out but I was sweating by the time I reached the top... I wasn't panting but I wouldn't have been able to talk... I was able to control my breathing... that's about it. 😂 Still a ways to go before I can reach conversation fitness level... she's a steep one that hill! Once I've mastered that I think I'll move one street over... it's not as steep being longer but it goes down to the river so it's a nicer walk and a new challenge.

Someone a street over had a very loud party last night so my sleep was disturbed by the occasional loud outburst of swearing or banging or music being turned up suddenly. I just love being startled awake multiple times in the night. Oh well... it was Saturday night and it doesn't happen every Saturday and it has been pretty quiet since the whole covid thing I must say.

Good morning @Escaped_Goat , am glad to see you...was worried the pain might have kept you away if you'd had to take strong painkillers. Which is fine of course if you needed time away, but I'm glad to know how you are.

Sorry to hear your night was disrupted. I had a good night and was in bed with the lights off by 9pm. I don't function after 9pm so this is the optimal time for me. 2 nights down from my 21 days of forming a habit...

You mentioned the hill yesterday...Don't say you did the hill this morning without your 27 morning coffees?!? 😄 I can hear how much more positive you're feeling now you're able to exercise.

I'm going out now to the local supermarket...I don't feel too scared about going out this morning thank goodness. What does your day hold?

@NatureLover Congratulations on two days down... only 19 to go! Woot!

I do feel more positive when I can exercise. I'm feeling a bit vague in my mind now though... not sure if it's the additional antidepressant making me feel a bit forgetful or because I'm disassociating? I'm voting the second.

My day... filling up my pill container with my supplements for the week. Possibly going to Bunnings for some bits and bobs for a project. Maybe doing some cross stitch.

Aww, thanks for being excited for me! I do sleep better when I go to bed properly, too.

I'm a bit alarmed to hear you're dissociating...is that caused by your physical pain? I can't imagine how bad it must be 😞

Good luck if you do go out...I hope your numbers behave. @Escaped_Goat

@NatureLover Not my physical pain.. it's funny but no matter how bad that's been I've never disassociated from that.

I've just had some breakfast.. thinking I will go out to Bunnings before I shower. It's a hardware store... who cares if my hair isn't as clean as it should be 😂

I just remembered I wanted to go to the Indian store too but that's in the next town so a bit more debating with myself to do...

I'm sorry to hear 😞 I have often dissociated from emotional pain so I know how painful it is...sending you a virtual hug. @Escaped_Goat

It's interesting that you've never dissociated from your intense physical pain.

It won't matter at all if you don't have a shower before you go to Bunnings, as people will be physical distancing!

Is it harder for you to go out when you have further to go? Does it involve more counting?

I haven't yet decided what to do today. All I really want to do is stay outside in the sun all day...
