Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Hi @Dimity , thank you for your friendship. ❤️ I'm in a low place at the moment. It was a real battle to get up this morning.

I had an off day today. Instead of tidying more papers I did a little work outside

Sorry to hear you had an off day. I hope that getting outside and away from your inside chores and tasks helped. Nature is very nurturing.

Thanks for your good wishes. I somehow have to get out to the chemist today.

I'm glad your gap fee for the psychologist will be small. It's today, so I hope it goes well and you feel you can work with him/her ongoing. 🤞

It's hard facing the day sometimes @NatureLover but I look forward to your latest post and a plungerful of coffee when i emerge, although I postpone my reply til the end of the day. Did you get to the pharmacy? I believe mine does free home deliveries, a wonderful backup.

Today had some nice surprises - a pleasant psychologist and it's through a community centre so doesn't have the same limits as a MHCP although they aim for only short-term engagement. My taxi concession card arrived - good timing for getting to the vet tomorrow. And I picked up my new glasses which have made a real difference. So maybe this is a fresh start. Getting outside yesterday helped too.

Back to goal setting. Tomorrow will be chores after several days' slacking, and the vet. Then over the next few days I'll embark on "working through" stuff rather than "decluttering". There's so much to do, and it would be nice to be able to enjoy the doing of it.

I hope you feel up to working tomorrow. Take care.

@Dimity So glad to hear all your good news 🙂💚

I'm so pleased the psychologist was nice...how short-term is it? And about your new glasses, such happy news 🙂

I had forgotten that my pharmacy also does home deliveries. But I think they need to have my scripts on file there, which they aren't. I didn't make it there yesterday, in fact went back to bed, but am going to try again today. Am not up to going in to work. Just the chemist and food shopping today.

Also, yesterday I was notified by AVG which is the free computer security system that they had had a breach and my details were on the dark web. I couldn't cope with that news yesterday, but overnight I thought that maybe it was a scam and I shouldn't click on their free offer. It's all beyond me.

I'm glad your taxi concession card arrived in time to save you a bit of money for your expensive vet visit today. I hope it goes well... 💚

I hope you got what you needed today @NatureLover and then rested up. I agree data hacking is a worry - I've been affected too - and I'm now very cautious about unsolicited links. I also get a lot of scam invoices which I don't open.

The psychologist could be perhaps up to 6-9 months, and won't be ongoing. And from what my gp has said I think I'm about to lose my longterm psychiatrist, which is very upsetting.

The vet and taxis went OK thanks.

Here's hoping tomorrow is a good day... and we achieve something however small.

Ohhhh no @Dimity ! I agree, that is very upsetting 😢 It's so hard finding then starting again with someone new, and you don't know what their costs will be. I'm sorry to hear. When I had to start with a new psychiatrist about 18 months ago, my old psychiatrist recommended someone...would that be possible?

I've been awake since 2.15am and was up at 3.45am and it's now 4.30. I generally can't cope with lying in bed awake - my thoughts are too dark in the night. I have my psychologist this morning at 11, by Telehealth as she is sick, she said yesterday. I really hope she's not too sick for the appt, as I really need it. I only see her monthly and it's been a tough month.

I went out and got my meds and food yesterday and also picked up 5 reserved books at the library. So I feel well supplied for the next 3 days and can stay home.

Do you think your details were sold to someone on the dark web?? 😮

How often will you be seeing your psychologist in that 6-9 months?

My aim for today is to write up my notes for the psychologist and email them to her, then rest till 11, then my appt, then I don't know what. It's going to be sunny so I might sit outside or do some gardening. We have some liquid ambar trees in the front communal garden, one of which has about 20 suckers sprouting up that I need to get rid of.

I hope that whatever you decide to tackle works well today and you continue to feel brighter...

That sounds like a really uncomfortable night @NatureLover . I hope getting prepared for then seeing your psychologist helped. It's good you can bunker down with your books for another couple of days.

I'm frightened of being left in limbo without another psychiatrist. The new psychologist said she doesn't report to gps or make referrals, and it's not a mental health service, so I'm not sure what to expect from her.

I worked in the garden this afternoon and filled a wheelie bin with prunings, then shopped. I hope your liquidambar suckers won't be difficult to remove. I need to remove some of a nandina clump, and there's lots of weeding. It's just about time to repot the orchids too.

I'm starting to see some repairs and maintenance to get done, as well as all the clutter. This weekend I'll be catching up on chores again, and maybe some gardening. I haven't swapped out my phone for a book yet, but hope to soon.

Happy reading.

Yes, I understand. 🫂

You filled a whole wheelie bin, wow! Repairs and maintenance cost money, so I hope those will be OK for you.

I have to time the removal of the liquid ambar suckers carefully, as they are outside my neighbour's place who is out there every 15 minutes smoking. It's sunny here at the moment (8.37am - late online today) but the weather forecast doesn't show a lot of sun in the upcoming 7 days. Just part sun.

My psychologist helped, thanks...she also gave me lots of homework this time. One of the tasks was "stream of consciousness writing" which I'll try today - I haven't done that before. She said it was hard to get started on it but that after a couple of days it would become easier.

Not sure what to tackle today...I'll see. At least the laundry's done. Good luck with your chores, and I know you'll enjoy the gardening I think? 🙂

I hope the writing helps @NatureLover ... many years ago a psychiatrist got me to do it, and it seemed to surface stuff that might not otherwise have come up. It's a process, stay with it. Do you find it easier to type or write longhand? Longhand is better for flow, and there's not the same ability to backtrack and edit.

I got through some chores but felt unwell.

I was reading about John Steinbeck's diaries documenting writing the Grapes of Wrath... doggedly persevering day after day through misgivings and self-doubt.

Really sorry to hear 😢 Do you mean physically or mentally? I hope when you wake up today that you feel better...

I avoided starting the stream of consciousness writing yesterday. Which tells me there's things I fear uncovering. Oh dear. I think it work better in writing longhand, for me.

You are the best perseverer I know.
