Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Thanks @NatureLover today was better. Sometimes I feel both physically and mentally unwell and they cross over in high anxiety.

It can be hard to start writing but sometimes prompts or questions can help - how am I feeling? what's happened? what's my posture or body language and what might it show to an observer? what memories/thought processes/wishes for the future come up? what would I tell myself? Once started, it might come up in fits and starts rather than in a set time, and be quite unstructured. Anyway, that's how I'd approach it if I could settle down to it again - I think it would help me so I looked into it a while back. But maybe your psychologist has other suggestions. When I did it decades ago my psychiatrist's only advice was "keep writing".

I was outside again for a bit today. I'm hoping to tackle the kitchen tomorrow.

Ĝood luck with work - I do hope you can get there tomorrow and enjoy your time there.

This sounds pretty awful @Dimity 😢

But I'm glad yesterday was a bit better. Hoping today is also better for you.

Your tips on the stream of consciousness writing are very useful, thanks. I will write them down on the page to get me started. I avoided it again yesterday 😣

Thanks...I'm planning on going to work today after missing a week. Hope I don't feel too fragile once there, just because of getting out into the rough'n'tumble world again.

It was a lovely day to get outside yesterday. Good luck with your kitchen today. Sending good wishes... 💚

I do so hope things worked out for you today @NatureLover, and you found your groove easily at work.

I gave up in the kitchen. A couple of weeks ago I delved into the cupboards and brought out some stuff I still haven't dealt with, so the bench is cluttered. I haven't progressed in the livingroom since my last helper left. Then there's the bedrooms. It's all the same old stuff, I haven't been buying extra. I just need to work through it all somehow.

Tomorrow I'm going out for a community group. I think it's only a once-off, but they expect you to commit to crafting for charity.

What do you have planned for tomorrow?

Thanks for your good wishes - I had a good day at work, was just tired afterwards as I'd had a week off.

Your house sounds like it's daunting you 😢🫂 I understand. Is there anything I can do to help?

The craft for charity group - do they expect you to do the crafting ongoing? By yourself at home? I hope you enjoy the socialising 🙂

Today is a nice day at home. I need to start the stream of consciousness writing. I'm not sure yet what to tackle in the house.

Hi @NatureLover

Yes the crafting is meant to be ongoing in our own time. They may set up a regular drop-in session to get together again. It was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon.

My psychologist has cancelled. So far I've had 1 consultation and 2 cancellations so it's not looking promising. I'll follow it up tomorrow.

I'm stuck at the moment re the house, as you would have noticed. Going out today was a welcome change.

Glad you had a nice time at the crafting, @Dimity 🙂

I'm upset for you that your psychologist has cancelled again. How often are you meant to be seeing them?

I can empathise with being stuck on the house. I'm stuck on the house and the stream of consciousness writing.

I hope that today is a better day for you today, in that you can take care of yourself and maybe enjoy the day a little.

Hello @NatureLover

I hope you had a good day and maybe put pen to paper.

We haven't discussed frequency of appts actually... no plans in place re what we do or when. My fault, I'm not good at setting an agenda or negotiating outcomes. I feel very foggy, it's part of the problem.

I had a slow day tidying the kitchen a little. I found my cancelled concert tickets from Covid days in 2020. I've not resubscribed since then. Tomorrow I'll press on, there's some papers I want to find.
