Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Well done on completing your tax return @Dimity 👍

Dealing with Centrelink is very difficult...good luck.

Are you keeping the sewing or other projects you find? I'm throwing out any old projects that I find that I haven't finished. Things like old socks to darn. I don't have the energy to do them.

Today I start bringing out one box a week from my neighbour's shed, on Tuesdays. I know what's in the 7 most recent boxes that I put in just before the inspection, but I can't remember much of what's in the rest. I estimate there's 40 boxes in there but I guess there might be more - I will try to keep count. There will be a lot of disinfecting to do - it will be slow work.

Thankfully my neighbour signed a new 12-month lease recently! When she eventually moves out I might be in a pickle. Hopefully I will have got rid of what's in the shed by then, but where would I put any new boxes just before an inspection? I've got double to deal with as of today - keeping up with daily incomings plus dealing with the old stuff. I know most people deal well with such things, but it will be a big challenge for me.

Do you think your helper will come today? I know it seems to be in limbo as she's starting an new job elsewhere at some point...

Hello @NatureLover yes my helper came today but we didn't do much. She finishes soon, maybe in a week or two. She commented on what I hadn't done, but I'd been trying to chip away at other stuff and thought I'd made progress.

I hope you don't feel too daunted by your boxes. It's good that you're planning to pace yourself. You've made a big step in reducing the incomings re online shopping and that should help. Do you buy a lot of long life groceries?

I've been separating half-finished projects from those I'd not yet started. So far I've been keeping the ones I haven't finished but donating unused kits and materials. I don't remember finding any mending or alterations. I'd like to go back to sewing if I can get in the right headspace and I can see well enough (a big if).

We'll be OK, maybe we can help keep each other on track. I'm trying to do a bit most days.

Sorry to hear this 😞

I do feel daunted by my boxes, but thank goodness they are tucked away out of sight, which reduces the pressure. Yes, I do tend to buy a lot of long life groceries, especially cleaning and disinfecting products.

I got a box (actually a bag) out of the shed yesterday but haven't tackled it yet. I went out for coffee with a friend. Today am just at home so need to face it.

I am sorry about your eyesight not being the best 🫂

Your chipping away at things is definitely progress 💚

How are you going with your bag @NatureLover ?

I'm chipping away v-e-r-y slowly. I discarded several things today. Maybe I'll achieve more tomorrow.

Well done on the discarding, @Dimity 👍

I fell in a slump on Weds so didn't tackle the bag, and yesterday was work. Today is my errand day out and about, so this weekend I can tackle it. I also want to spend time outside today as it will be sunny!

Good luck today with whatever you need to do...

Hope you enjoyed the sun @NatureLover . I lost track again and forgot to peg out the washing. I've had a few worries and my brain fog isn't helping. But I had a nice surprise when I was tidying, I found a CD I thought I'd lost.

My helper has finally given her (short) notice so I'll have to make the decision about replacing her. I probably won't. But I'm nervous about tackling the offsite stuff by myself and occasionally getting a random Airtasker.

Wishing you success with your bag. I hope to tidy away some stuff in the livingroom.
