Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Happy to hear about the CD you found, @Dimity 🙂

Do you have the problem of maybe taking stuff back out of boxes you had already sorted and designated for the Opp Shop? Just wondering, as if you have room in your house you could pile up many boxes ready for the Opp Shop before having to call someone to deliver them? (I expect you've got it all planned out already)

I've got a lot of disinfecting to do today. Stuff has piled up all week on the kitchen floor and kitchen bench. I don't like disinfecting stuff, despite the strong compulsion to do it. Other than the kitchen, the house is still neat and clean.

I also ordered a large outdoor trunk, made of plastic, for that stuff in the shed that I want to keep. It was the largest size on offer and will go on my verandah, once I've built it. It's lockable apparently, but I don't think I'd need to lock it unless I put tools in it.

Good luck with your living room today... 🤞

@NatureLover its a headache caused by spinal fluid leak. I dont have a formal diagnosis tho. I did rest a bit and it is better now. Maybe it is just neck strain. I had a bad migraine last night and vomited and now I feel better. I am not online as much bc of this 😞

hi there @Shaz51

@NatureLover Yep! I’ve been awake for hours! 😩 cause my meds are being delivered so early, last night I took them at 5:30pm. Today it will be 4pm. So I’ve been going to bed so early usually by 7:30, I sleep okish for a few hours, maybe until midnight and then I toss and turn the rest of the night and am awake so early.

The trunk is an interesting idea @NatureLover . I hope it works for you.

I've usually been able to pass stuff onto the opshop fairly soon after sorting, and have rarely changed my mind. If I'm indecisive I tend to hold onto things.

I've not dealt with the livingroom, it's hanging over me. I did some weeding and picked up street litter instead. I've been trying to finish the admin paperwork and have given up after many frustrating attempts to do it online. I'll try going to Centrelink again... I've been trying to sort it out for 3 months.

The disinfecting sounds tedious but it's important if it gives you peace of mind. Well done on keeping most of the house in its ready-for-inspection state - that's a big win.

Hi @Dimity , I was too depressed to come on the forums yesterday and also early this morning. But I went back to bed, and now I feel a little better but still not great (9.30am).

I have to psych up to tackle building the outdoor trunk - it's very large. Or maybe I will ask a handyman to do it - I have quite a few jobs saved up for a handyman. However my last good handyman retired, so I need to find another one, which is a bit daunting.

That's good that you rarely change your mind once you've allocated an item to get rid of.

Thanks for your kind words. I haven't yet dealt with the bag from the shed I got out last Tuesday. So today is the last day I can tackle it really...then I need to get another one out this afternoon hopefully.

3 months is a long time to have that business paperwork hanging over your head. I hope that when you go into Centrelink you can get it sorted finally.

Glad you feel a little better @NatureLover . I couldn't face the day at first either.

Don't beat yourself up about the bag. Goals are aspirational, not mandatory, and if at times we don't succeed we can reset the timer and try again.

I've just summoned the courage to contact a handyman for help, but he hasn't got back to me yet. I agree it's daunting.

I put a lot more effort into my paperwork then rang Centrelink... there was a very long wait but they managed to help so it's finally lodged.

Tomorrow I'll try to muddle on. I'm under a bit of pressure to decide on replacing my helper - one reason I contacted the handyman, to see what he could do. And the livingroom still awaits my efforts.

Have a good day tomorrow - hopefully we'll both surprise ourselves.
