Numb again

Numb again

I have tried contacting online support but everything is unavailable or offline .

I was raped 7 years ago and things happen so I made myself numb and supprised everything. I learned about the breathing techniques as well as the 5,4,3,2,1 tool. Tonight it's not working . I am having flash backs like crazy and I can't get my mind and body to calm down to relax and sleep . At this stage I am in for a night of night terrors and I can't do that again tonight. I am shutting down again but not sure how to stop it .

Re: Numb again

Can you see another GP @Pollyotter? PTSD is a mental illness and should be treated by your GP as such. If your GP won't do a Mental Health Care Plan for you then maybe it is time to see someone else who will. This is not something you should be going through alone and in my opinion it is negligent of your GP to not take you seriously, treat you for PTSD and refer you to a psychologist at the bare minimum.

Re: Numb again

I am looking for someoen Els as my GP makes me feel inadequate . It's just with the current state I have not found anyone who is taking on new people . So I am taking it slow. @Zoe7

Re: Numb again

Yeah it is certainly very difficult at the moment @Pollyotter Have you considered chatting to one of the helpline counsellors here at SANE (they are available 10am - 10pm weekdays). I have used the chat service in the past - sometimes more than once a day and they were amazing.

Re: Numb again

The helpline counsellors provide support, information and referrals to other services that can help in your area @Pollyotter If you look at the top right of the homepage here you will see Help Centre, CHAT and the phone number. I always used chat because I find it difficult to actually talk. They have guided me through things in the past to get to a point where I could cope a little better. They also helped me with my safety plan which luckily I have not needed much in the last year. That reminds me - I need to update that!

Re: Numb again

It has in it all the things I can do when I am feeling suicidal @Pollyotter - my warning signs, reasons to live, things I can do to keep my environment safe, things I can do myself, people/places to reach out to. Some of those have changed since I first did the plan over 3 years ago so I really should update it.

Re: Numb again

I am extremely lucky that I have had exceptional support from my team @Pollyotter - GP psychiatrist and psychologist all working together ...as well as exceptional support from the forum and helpcentre. Most of the counsellors that I had the most contact with here have now left but there are some still around that I know from first hand experience are worth their weight in gold - so if you need that extra support then please reach out to them.

There are apps that can help you work through a safety plan as well - Beyond Blue is one place that comes to mind.
