Is anyone around tonight? Depressed and suicidal

Is anyone around tonight? Depressed and suicidal

Hi everyone on the forums. *Admins/mods, feel free to move this to an appropriate thread if this one isn't the right place.*

I'm really down right now, in a dark place. I want to hurt myself, I'm feeling suicidal. I've never attempted or done anything in my life but I want to.

As I mentioned in one of my posts, I don't see my Psychiatrist again until March 30. Then the new GP on March 13, but I want to see my Psychiatrist more because I feel more comfortable with him.

I also mentioned in another post that the local mental health triage (yes thats what they called themselves) refuse to help me and support me, they just admit people so they won't help or tell me people/places that can. I give up.

I can't get a job, I can't afford to study and the free courses at TAFE & Uni you had to a course already & have qualifications which I don't. I can't meet people. I went to a Headspace Centre & that was bad for me, sometime last year (for a group & Psychologist).

I don't see Psychologists anymore because of bad experiences. I see my Psychiatrist on Skype because he's in Sydney & I'm in Victoria (regional sort of).

I don't know what to do, I just give up. I don't want to be here anymore and I can't stop these thoughts, it's so hard for me not to try and do something and fight the thoughts. I only have my parents but it's so hard.

I'm sorry for coming on here and venting, I know everyone has their own things to deal with. I don't want to call 000 at the moment, I'd have to discuss with my parents anyway but they know everything I go through.

I don't know if these meds are working at all or if i should up the dosage like my Psychiatrist said shortly.

I just want to hurt myself and don't want to be here. I'm so stressed and just ready for a break down. On my walk today with my dog I had a panic attack because of everything and just seeing a few people and cars drive by which gets a bit much for me as silly as that sounds, I know. And I just feel like I'm ready for a breakdown.

Yes I've spoken to Kids Helpline, eHeadspace, Beyond Blue, SANE web chat etc. I might try them now too if I can get through, I don't know.

Re: Is anyone around tonight? Depressed and suicidal

Thank you @Scarecrowe and @Valentine .

I'm sorry to hear that you're both struggling, and that I'm venting while you have your own things to deal with, as well as everyone on the forums. I'm doing my best. I'll explain more in one of my next comments/posts here.

I give up. I'm sorry for wasting people's time and not being good enough, and that everyone on the forums has their own things to deal with. I'm sorry. I'm just gonna go. I know these aren't crisis services I just wanted support and people to talk to because I don't have professional help other than my Psychiatrist who I don't see until the 30th and a new GP who probably can't do much. Sorry, bye for now.

What would "support" look like to you @Former-Member?

These forums aren't hugely busy but the social spaces subforum is where most of the quick turn-around conversations happen. Those are good places for 'people to talk to' however those threads aren't the best place to talk about upset feelings etc. The best place for that is threads like this in Somethings Not Right but posts there can definitely be slower and fewer people will reply just by the nature of it.

Hope you don't mind me being honest with you but the level of distress that you tend to post with , reminds me a lot of how I felt when I was younger. But I didn't ask for help because I didn't know what help would even look like (I still don't, really) and because I thought it would be pathetic of me to do so. I want to emphasise that this is my problem - not yours - but I have trouble reading your posts because it pulls me into those old feelings.

I honestly don't mean to sound insulting, but I'd suggest that you look into "distress tolerance" if you haven't already, and find some ways to 'sit with' your emotions. From personal experience it really does help more than waiting for someone to reply to a post. Then when someone does reply, the distress tolerance practice helps to have slightly less urgency and demand in what one needs/expects from people replying.

I apologise if this comes across poorly, I'm on my phone and trying to get this down during my lunch break... But I think, given that you're on 3 different forums and still struggling with (I assume) not enough interaction to satisfy what you think you need from them, it really might help to define your needs better for yourself and really take a look at what ones you can meet by accepting your emotions and observing how they change rather than trying to avoid or attenuate them through interactions.

@Former-Member Didn’t you get what you where looking for here? Maybe put a trigger warning on your message if people are feeling bad it might be upsetting and you tagged people so they will see it but won’t have a warning...

@Former-Member I'm glad you're using the forums and connecting with others when things are feeling heavy and tough going. Everyone here has been in the same boat — there are times when the forum is a good outlet to just lightly connect with others and there are times where it's a good place to speak about some of the challenges and hear others talk about having been through similar times.

For when things feel on the heavier side, we do have the Help Centre available 10am to 10pm for those time when you need more than more general forum peer support. This is where you'll reach a professional to speak with. You can contact the Help Centre on 1800 18 72 63. Lifeline has more extensive hours if you're in need of support after 10pm: 13 43 57.

Re: Is anyone around tonight? Depressed and suicidal

Yes @Former-Member we do all have our own problems to deal with. If we didn't we wouldn't be on these forums in the first place.

I am wondering what too support looks like for you and what you want to get out of the forums? It is a good place to connect when we are feeling ok to have a chat and support others. It is also a good place to get support when things are not so good. It is also a relief to talk to people who are going (or have been) through similar experiences to ourselves. Of course eveyones story is different but it is comforting when people understand the thoughts and feelings you are having.

I think that building up your tool box of skills to do when you are distressed is an excellent idea. We all get distressed at times and have times when our skills don't work, but that doesn't mean we stop trying to use them, it means we go back to the start and try again. Even I, when distressed, need reminding of this at times. It helps to have these skills written down somewhere. That can help you remind yourself of what you have and haven't tried.

So please stay around on the forums, continue to interact with people and use the frums as an extra layer of support that we all need.

Take care xoxo

Hi @Former-Member

I'm on a quick forum wander between things at the moment and I caught your post. You're not wasting people's time, though im sorry it feels that way. That's a really sucky feeling 🙁

I noticed sometimes your tags don't send a notification. It's a bit of a forum glitch I think, perhaps when copying and pasting names (from what I see it happens when the link symbol comes up often on a big group tag). Just thought I'd mention it as sometimes tags don't work and are missed.

It's super hard when you're waiting for supports or when professional supports aren't seeming so helpful. The forum for me is a great place to connect with others in a general chit chat kind of way, for support with my MH, for encouragement, for information and ideas, to learn and share what helps etc. There are lots of ways to connect here and things to connect over. I hope you find what you are looking for here too.

Re: Is anyone around tonight? Depressed and suicidal

@TheVorticon @CheerBear @Snowie @Former-Member @Eden1919 I wasn't trying to trigger anyone. I just tagged because I just tagged everyone who has been in my notifications. yes I could've put a trigger warning, I apologise. I don't know what I wanted out of the forums, but I was putting myself down not anyone else. I didn't mean to upset anybody, so I'm sorry. I guess what I wanted was just someone to talk to just whenever anyone is available, to try and get my mind off things. I have been reading different threads though, for example in the social spaces part. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make anyone mad. Please forgive me. I'll just request for this whole thread to be deleted if I can.
