Triage questions (not sure what else to name the topic)

Triage questions (not sure what else to name the topic)

*POSSIBLE TRIGGER WARNING, BUT I'M NOT TRYING TO TRIGGER ANYONE.*

And if this isn't posted in an appropriate thread, feel free to move it.

Hi all. I have some questions please, but please note that I'm not going to do anything or go there, these are just questions.

  • What happens when you call 000 (I assume you would ask for Ambulance or Police?) for mental health, so say if you were going to do something or attempted or just that the thoughts were really strong, or if you couldn't get through to somewhere like Lifeline? (I've never called for this reason).
  • If you went to a triage, what do they do? Do they just put you on heaps of meds and admit you, or can they just support you (kind of like a group where you share your story with others, or?)

I ask this because my Psychiatrist referred me to the local triage, but when I exchanged phone calls with them, they were all extremely rude and unhelpful and refused to help me or even let me ask questions, or tell me anyone that could help me. They said that they don't even know why my Psychiatrist wasted his time because they're not going to help me and they just admit people rather than give them support or tell me who else can help. Yes I told my Psychiatrist this, and my new GP.

As mentioned above, I'm not going to do anything, I'm just curious.

Thanks. Also please note I'm not trying to trigger anyone, just questions, hence why I wrote that up the top in caps.

I'll tag everyone below that I've talked to on the forums.

Re: Triage questions (not sure what else to name the topic)

@TAB yeah I'll ask my GP and Psychiatrist when I see them again.

As for Newstart, no. I looked at all the Centrelink things to apply for, the DSP for Mental Health was all I was eligible for. Everything else I have to be 22, studying, working, etc. which I'm not. I'm only 20 also, I'll be 21 in November.

So it sucks. Maybe I could try again, I'll ask my Psychiatrist and GP also. My parents said I could give it a go, my Psychiatrist is happy to write stuff, not sure about the new GP since I've only seen her once.

Sorry for venting and tagging you and everyone else a lot. I feel like a burden and annoying to everyone like I said, I'm sorry

nothing to be sorry for @Former-Member I didnt know re 22 and age etc no idea, still worth a try I guess, just ask psych guess. did they say why they rejected claim ? you dont have to say reason, just for your info re trying again

Re: Triage questions (not sure what else to name the topic)

@TAB no they didn't say why they rejected it, I sent everything in paper form, this was a few days before Christmas, only heard back from them recently, they sent something in the mail. I photocopied all my ID then went to the local Centrelink help thing and they verified it or whatever you call it, then yeah.

I'll ask my Psych if he can do something, he said he's happy to. Maybe he's dealt with them before, he did say that they're annoying and it will be hard and take a long time, I understand that there's others out there more needy than me

I live in a big city and am also very very isolated. I am on the DSP and NDIS it was a lot of work and took a while to get on these. I had help with people advocating for me from EACH. This made it possible. I know these types of organisations work across Australia In regional areas. This help is assisting me to move forward. Slowly.

More assistance is out there. The ridiculous thing is with assistance I've gone from almost nothing to a massive amount of support. From the anonymous things you've said about your condition you may well fit the criteria. I couldn't do all the paperwork and interviews by myself. Or face them. The help from EACH made it possible. I don't know how you find an equivalent provider in your area. Maybe a facilitator could assist?

Re: Triage questions (not sure what else to name the topic)

@Former-Member

I have had 000 called on me before. Once was just a welfare check and the other I was taken to hospital.

I can only comment on what happened to me.

I spoke to a doctor spoke to a mental health person, kept overnight, and followed up which was useless for me.

Re: Triage questions (not sure what else to name the topic)

@WriterMelb sorry to hear that but that's good that you're on the NDIS. I don't know much about it but I think there's places locally that do that sort of thing.

I'm also lonely and in a regional town.

@TAB no problem, sorry to bother you. Thanks anyway

Re: Triage questions (not sure what else to name the topic)

@Snowie I'm sorry to hear that.

I feel like I should delete this thread, I feel like I'm upsetting and triggering people so I'm sitting here feeling really anxious and bad, I'm sorry. I hope I haven't done that

Re: Triage questions (not sure what else to name the topic)

Please stop apologising @Former-Member

You have nothing to be sorry about. You have put a trigger warning at the top, it is up to others if they read it or not.

I have read far worse on here. If it triggered me I wouldn't have responded to you.

Re: Triage questions (not sure what else to name the topic)

@Snowie thanks for the reassurance, I'm glad I didn't upset you. And yeah I thought it would be best to put that incase people get upset, which is all good if they don't read it let alone reply.

Thanks for replying too. And you're right, good point.

I've read more triggering things like this too on forums and online
