Munchies

Munchies

Thought I would start a thread that can be used to chat or talk about food issues, hates or loves. I do comfort eat but also I know its the great human connecting ground, because we all do need to eat, no matter what.

I wondered if some on the forum might relate to this more than the beergarden or the night shift. Hi @Former-Member I was thinking of you but anyone else who is interested may just pop in.

Just had a mandarin, its sweet but lighter flavour than an orange is sometimes just what i need.

Feel free to chat, though.

Cheers

Apple

Re: Munchies

We had 2 ‘milkers’ of our own on farm. Nothing in shops compares the Real Thing @Appleblossom. Even made own butter and icecream 🍦

Re: Munchies

Good show @Shaz51! My effort for the day was Anzac biscuits. It was supposed to be a mother-son activity, but his contribution was limited to eating them

Re: Munchies

Sounds like a good experience overall. @TAB

I mainly grew up in inner city with concrete all around. So generally my dairy farm experiences made a healthy life saving difference. It probably was just a kid who had grown up one a commercial farm showing me her preferences. They only did cream there when the hard working mum was in the mood.

Went to a couple of gay uncle's fam ily BBqs. They went all out with gourmet etc ... so Apple tried out pates and rich french sauces and cream based soups for a while.

After my overseas trip for a year sampling national foods all over, I adopted an approach what was influenced by my time in the Meditterannean and SE Asia ... and one book on the New American cuisine and whole food eating ...adjusting for the over correction with said dreaded cream.

My other used to tip in half a packet of white sugar in pot when making cordial for us. She was so angry about making it. I did not follow in those footsteps. Not a conscious decision at first, but just a slow awareness.

Re: Munchies

@Former-Member, I've made Elderberry Jelly using fruit from our tree. Sadly I was away the week they ripened this year, and the birds beat me to them. Every year I plan on trying out a few Elderflower recipes, but to date I haven't gotten to them in time yet.

Re: Munchies

@TAB@Appleblossom I love fresh milk. Even the better shop bought stuff is nowhere close to it. We don't have anywhere we can access it at the moment, but if laws changed to allow farmers to sell raw milk, we'd be at the head of the line.

I have made homemade butter and icecream too, but using shop bought cream. Once I got a 2l icecream container full of farm cream to make butter, and it was so high in butterfat that the buttermilk wouldn't separate. I had to add water to make it work. Lovely end result. 🙂

Re: Munchies

So true @Smc .. we used to have a hand turned separator re milk but can buy ‘bath milk’ re untreated milk if in city anyway. Milk is yum but its biggest benefits are from unsterilised product.
We used to sell cream. It would sit for days unrefrigerated for eg also water is toxic these days and shouldn’t be drunk unfiltered etc etc
