Re: Sleeping too much
Hi @Former-Member
I should be a major contributor in your "sleeping" thread - it could be the change in the weather or the result of walking for miles every day in Lakes Entrance - but I am sleeping a lot - and I like it but - like everyone else I have a home to organise and it's getting untidy here
Oh well
I do not think that your concerns about your son will bring everyone else down but I do understand your fears - I have lived through those fears - and my thoughts are how I can help you to be more objective about them - because that is really hard when you are worried that he may become self-destructive
About a happy childhood or not - when King George 7th was an adult he whined "I had no boyhood" - and if royalty had it's say - I doubt anyone of them did. I have read up on the lives of many of them and it seems to me that being super-rich does not make kids happy - and of course neither does the opposite end of the spectrum. Who has had a happy childhood?
I think such events are few and far between. Children lack power and resources and spend their lives doing what other people tell them to and get into trouble if they do not and have few choices and spend a lot of time waiting to be old enough to have a bike or a watch - I suppose in this day and age it would be a smart phone and a car - and I was continuously being told that my school days were the best days of my life. Well - school was the best part of my life - but I was taken out of school too soon for myself and had to work and still bitch about that - I went to night school.
Um yes - best for you to listen - and maybe ask the young man if he thinks anyone had a good childhood and agree that being a child is not the best fun anyone ever has.
I do understand your concerns - and well - what to do about that?
My suggestion is to give him some space - after all - his gf thought him less than perfect - and this would be a blow to him - and he has lost his first love, I remember when I did when I was in my 50s - and for a time I grieved - so he is grieving for that and all the shadows around it.
After keeping hands off for a while ands if he seems ready suggest Head Space or Beyond Blue - he doesn't have to be alone in his misery - and he does have enough to be miserable about, I think he is scared of losing you - he lost his sister and his girlfriend has moved on and his Dad and Grandies are ancient - I get it - what happens to him if he gets to close to people?
From my point of view - all this is going on and he has no control over anything so that is what he is about right now - sorting himself out - but your fears are genuine. Your own MH is not the best - and this scares him - but he is a young man - @TAB has offered some good suggestions about this.
I have learned not to tell my dd my concerns about my own life - I haven't told her much for years - and as time passes we seem to be getting closer. She has a lot of people in her life - I don't - but I have enough social life to get by on and it's okay. But I tell her little of my own concerns. I wish I could share more - but this is life
As human beings we are vulnerable - life throws curly balls at us and you have a family that is at best problematic. Your own parents are nearing their end and your siblings are better away from you as are mine. Objectively you are pretty much on your own - like me - and your son has all of this in his background
It sounds as if he is working he way toward something - and I can tell you one thing - you mean more to him that either of you know - you are a valuable person Tawnz - you are wonderfully kind and caring - you love your son - and he knows it - but as a young man he wants to stand on his own feet
But I had no idea he was working such long hours - this is the best sign - he is being financially independent - wow
All the best - keep telling us how his life is - we do care

Re: Sleeping too much
Do have a chest of drawers waiting for me to finish sanding back & paint white - got some tips from a lady at the local gift shop yesterday, on how she done up her display cupboards - amazing what she's done using a rag she said. Seem to have a 'block' when it comes to finishing things so gotta push past that.
Hope your day is a good one, nice to see you Dec xox
