Back to the original post...

Lots of depressed people (especially if their meds mean their metabolism has caused weight gain) suffer from sleep apnoea. This is an insidious condition wherein the sufferer's airway blocks and breathing is stopped until the brain shouts out "roll over" and your airway clears. In the time when your airway is blocked your heart is put under enormous load and this can, sometimes, lead to sleep death. More often than not the sufferer thinks they've had a good long night's sleep (especially if they've slept for more than nine hours) but, in reality, they haven't. The breathing stoppages interrupt REM sleep and this can cause damage to your mental state.

After I was diagnosed with GAD and depression the meds I was taking made my weight balloon. It was then that I started sleeping well into the afternoon and I would wake up tired as I was when I went to bed. My GP sent me for a sleep test and, lo and behold, I had one of the worst cases of sleep apnoea the specialist had ever seen. I was asked to buy an APAP machine (this is the automatically adjusting type...the standard type is called a CPAP machine) and from the first night of using it I started having much better quality sleep. The machines use positive air pressure to keep your airway clear, thereby stopping the breathing interruptions.

If you are sleeping for long hours, are carrying a bit of weight, have a partner who says you snore like a steam train and wake up feeling terribly tired then you need to get a referral from your GP to have a sleep test. This simple step may, in fact, save your life.

Yep @Former-Member Like @TAB sed. Hope it is a good day.

Sometimes its best to keep expectations lower and then its easier to be pleasantly surprised.

Yesterday I drove to Lygon st, yes am back on the freeways again but keeping it occasional.

I often do train dropoffs and pickups.

Tho today I took train and had sushi & icecream.
