Re: Sleeping too much

Hi @PeppiPatty

I can't remember what I wrote about the generational thing - but truly - the stories people write here seem to me to be a struggle to overcome the past and make a new life for themselves and it is a daily fight for most people. Maybe they can't or maybe it's a lifetime of work - and horrible to think that what our ancestors - particular one of both of our parents - thought certain behaviours were okay - and from somewhere it gets blamed on the terrible external factors of war and financial depression. It does not excuse people like my mother for example - who was seen as a sweet old lady when in reality she was violent and cruel to two small children who did not ask to be born

I have a lot of trouble with that and I feel I have come a long way in healing and I have been very lucky in the people I have had helping me.

I find the holocaust to have been the most egreggious thing that ever happened - and you write that you are Jewish by blood - I also have Jewish ancestors but know little about them. It is certainly further back in my family tree than my grandparents - but I find it interesting - as also on the other side there are two pairs of first cousins marrying.

It makes for an interesting family background.

Maybe we will go feral - but I have read a lot of anthropology and continue to do so - and realise that even things as terrible as the atomic bombs have poluted every thing in the world - we have to evolved to survive this - we will continue to evolve - but maybe the situation will become such that we shall have to return to the trees if there are any -

I think I understand what you are saying and there are times that I am glad that the possibility of my living that long is remote - one thing about having lived this long means I will not have to face what will happen by 2050 but feel troubled for my grandchildren and great-grandchildren

I am sorry it is so late before I replied - I got a headache after a friend was here - I can't tell her story but I found she is suffering from some kind of abuse and I could only listen - no way could I get a word in - people have to make their own choices and will in their own time - we can only accept that this is the way it is and remind them it is possible to manage alone if things are too bad

Your artwork is fantastic - I just can't do that - I guess my gift is rather writing - maybe some day I will write my son's story - but it's complicated

Thanks for your reply - I truly believe people here are working hard to improve their lives - some working hard just to survive - and whatever the cause it does seem to go back up the family tree

@TAB

I did not mean to imply that your dad shouldnt have had kids.

It was just that there was a fellow who came to the pastoral centre and wanted to talk about it a bit before he would then go to the German Club.
I have met lots of Germans and they all have different points of view about it.

How do you think it effected you and your decisions in life?

Its not a question that you need to reply to me .. but that is the way I would approach it.

About 3 years ago I was in a group where a dominant German and a dominant Brit .. were feeling a bit at odds .. so I said .. my folk were in the middle of it all .. and the planes and bombs went both ways .. you shouldnt feel silenced about it .. its how it is addressed that might help.

Anna Funder's book .. "All That I Am" has a lot of interesting things to say about the period.

Hi @Former-Member Yay 600 and growing

HI @Former-Member

Ow wow - no wonder you have been feeling fragile - your family is a disaster area - how does that happen? - if I have this right 2 of your brothers have MI and the other one has MS and your mother has cancer and your father has early dementia and one of your brothers wont talk to you

Wonderful but may I say the worst of these is your sister - you know - I think TS think she would do such a much better job of being a bereaved mother than I have - of course - she doesn't realise the price of being in such an exclusive club - but your sister - from what I gather she is jealous of the attention you didn't get when your young daughter died.

I find that with such a crappy attitude I want to cuddle you up and keep you safe against the world that has singled you out for such a family - that is such a lightning strike - sheesh

Don't be easy on your son - tell him he is your family and insist that you see him for even a short time on Christmas Day. I know TS likes to have people at her place for Christman dinner early and so dd and her family are bringing breakfast here this year - that is after a long conversation with her last year when I told her that Christmas is for families and friends have their own families and she is my family and I was really disappointed - I did see her

And this year my therapist said not to make things easy for her - and I had it planned I would say how disappointed I was to be having this conversation again when I ask little from her - but it must have sunk in, because they are coming here and bringing breakfast

It gets back to TS and no way do I want to see her on Christmas Day - or any day - she went too far and it will be a long time before I ever trust her again

But I hear ya sis - Christmas is a bleak time - I know I will be given chocolates and will probably eat too many - but I will be alone for most of the day - but what's new - l feel isolated at times but I will be lonely on Christmas Day -

Thinking of your with you perfect storm of damaged family - how did that happen? What are the odds.

I will have you on my mind and in my prayers these coming weeks - no wonder you feel fragile

Yep - I will be here for the coming weeks myself

Re: Sleeping too much

Oh shucks @Decadian, made me tear up. Think your the first person to actually 'get' the magnitude of it all. Accept maybe @Appleblossom, (hi ya Apple). I think we all have MI at varying degrees but yes,
- 2 bros with severe MI (psychosis) both relapsing in hospital this last month.
- 1 bro with MS this last 7yrs and suddenly can't walk today. He doesn't talk to me & I don't care for him to teally, given history and no remorse.
- another bro who rarely ever talks, bit of a snob, his wife barely speaks English. They had baby girl a year after my girl died and we connected through all that but he's alwayd done this withdrawing thing with everyonr on and off. But managed his own small business for 30yrs.
- and my TS, yes, she didn't cope with losing her only niece, or my misery. She's married to a dr (GP), has two adult sons to first marriage, step mum to 2 other boys and 5girls. She too is a bit snobby now new hubby has money.
- mum may not have a year to live with her cancer
- dad will forgets everything now and dependent on mum & services for everything.
- I apparently should be able to sell up house and go look after them all, but my MH support advises me against it because I:m so fragile myself. Feels like I should be there. Bit mar, she can be so horrible...

Actually just talked with my son tonight. He still hasn't decided about Christmas. His partner wants to be with her parents every year, he wants to be with her so I just said I'd like the weekend before if possible. He's thinking that might have to be so and will get back to me. Guess I ought to start cleaning the bedroom out just in case. Been so lazy. Its just about food and catch up now, and a gift. Haven't put up the big tree or decs since my girl died.

Thanks for your understanding, and listening and hugz.

Hope you're doing ok yourself this week? you over sinusitis? Chat tomorrow, op, today lol xox
