Re: Sleeping too much

Hey @Former-Member. You don't have to reply. He will work out over time that you don't think those texts are appropriate. It's kind of nice that he wants to tell you stuff but I know you would prefer it not to be that stuff. Don't let it get you down. From an outside perspective it's not ideal but something you can just let go of. Thinking of you 💜🤗

Thanks @Former-Member, don't know why poor sick & frail mum and dad are doing the royal run around for Bro3, being drug mule for bro4, Bro2 & 3 they live closer. ..

Re: Sleeping too much

Hey @Former-Member. Just channelling my therapist here but she would tell me your mum and dad have choices in this too. I understand your need to protect them at this stage of their lives but they can say no too. I've been finding this hard with my parents 'martyring' themselves for things and then suffering the consequences. At the end of the day it is their choice to do it and the consequences are theirs. However it is very painful and difficult to watch. I don't find it easy and get drawn in emotionally too so I get where you are coming from.

Re: Sleeping too much

Thanks @Former-Member, that's actually quite helpful. My mothers a pesemistic drama Queen about everything, crying for help but then pushing away. She can't see she's not coping and won't let go of control. Dad has dementia and dependent on her & goes with her flow lol. I have to let go, leave them to the state, its not right, these people are my flesh. But circumstance beyond my control. Guess I'm not giving up, just acceptance.
Are you OK?

Re: Sleeping too much

@Former-Member My dad is finding this stage difficult too although he doesn't have a terminal illness he is aging and finding it harder to do the things he used to. He and mum get upset at us if we try to stop them doing things so I am trying not to get involved and let them work it out. They have always been very strong and independent so I guess it takes time to adjust when those things are getting harder but I now know that is their job to do, they have to work it out for themselves and ask for help when it's needed. I guess we will always be on a learning curve in this life, there will always be curved balls being thrown at us regardless of our health and our age. I'm sure you will be there when you need to be for them. Please don't forget you are going through a tricky stage with your family trying to work out how to have them but still put yourself and sanity first. I'm doing it to. I really don't know what to expect but am just trying to learn on the go what works for me and what doesn't with my parents. It's pretty much trial and error. I'm glad you found the last post helpful. Hopefully this one will be too.

Re: Sleeping too much

Hello @Former-Member & @Former-Member

Hope you dont mind me joining in the conversation. Having similar struggles with a sibling who has taken finanical advantage of my mother recently and she still sees them as ok (beyond my comprehension). She has a drinking problem and now the age and effects are kicking in. I am the only one who gives a hand most weeks to do basic things (shopping, pay bills, doctors appointments etc), mind you I have more time and am the closest in living arrangements. However, struggling with guilt about the things I know she needs help with but I am on my own, struggling with mi and financially and have just secured decent housing in the last few years. If I change my circumstances to help her I will most likely go under for all sorts of reasons. I know that but it is still hard watching elderly parent sruggle along. I dont expect a reply as I have just joined in but I really relate to what you have shared. Thanks for sharing it helps to know I am not alone and helps me cope with the grief/guilt. Thanks again.

Re: Sleeping too much

Please feel free to join in any conversation @PurpleFlowers. I know it feels a bit uncomfortable when you first start but it is how the forum works best, just jumping in when you have something to add.

I'm really sorry your situation is so difficult with your mum. I honestly don't know how I will cope when my parents become reliant on help with my MI messing with me weekly and not being very reliable. I am the only child living in Australia so it will be up to me but I know my brother will help out financially so that is some comfort. You can only do what you can do. It must be so emotionally draining for you to watch though.

Take good care of you @PurpleFlowers and please feel free to jump in where ever on the forum. It's really nice to see you here. 💜🤗

Hi @PurpleFlowers, just jump into the conversation on any thread, just like this, especially when you relate to the topic. Sometimes contributers talk around you but don't take it personally (I should talk) You'd be surprised how so many people benefit from your posts and don't say. Or want to say and don't speak up or just get called away. O started this thread and you're welcome anytime. Maybe also we could start a thread - 'handling aging parents' what ya think? Our parents are not well enough to prop us up if we go under - so we have to balance demands with self care, you're doing that. Sounds as if you help your parents more than most.
You can access Gov Funded community services - talk to GP about an aged care assessment referral (if parents open), or just start the looking for what's available and how to access. Its only this last month my mum has finally started letting Vet Affairs come shower dad and do house modifications. Taken her years. We wanted them in an A niors Village but they kept thinking were trying to put them in a home. If your folks are as stubborn as my mum they have the syreng h to learn the hard way. Just door your h/w and keep doing the weekly help. That's amazing.

Bye for now, xox
