Re: Sleeping too much

Sounds wonderful @Former-Member. I'm supposed to be finding joy in things this weekend. That ice coffee might be a start

One for everyone @Faith-and-Hope, you'll need a walk after that lol. You must miss the river, and fin babies, but the countryside side sounds beautiful 🙂
So jealous. Really good to her from you.

Re: Sleeping too much

Oh @Former-Member

I just love the "supposed to be" finding joy. I have felt like that very very often. Dutifully looking out for things that should make me happy.

It is funny, but being on the lookout for those things, even if I am not really 'n the mood' ...

makes it more likely to happen. Its like the good thoughts eventually crowd out the bad thoughts.

but it is far more than simplistic CBT.

Cos I am still left with dissociating issues that can be serious .. as in if we deny real stuff that is bad .. we get out of touch with "reality"

Der ... does that make sense to anyone???

Re: Sleeping too much

I know @Appleblossom . It's not really happening but I figure I better plan for it at least so it could be and option. It happened to be my idea but I think it was more exciting for my therapist than me. How are you today?

Re: Sleeping too much

Yep, enjoy @Former-Member, make yourself a milk coffee an savour every sip, feel it going down and be thankful. One thing that helps mW is looking for my favourite colour everywhere around me. Then noticing how it compliments the others and visa versa. Instead of seeing the glass 1/2 empty, see it as 1/2 full and glad it is, genuinely pleased you get a drink at all (be crap if there was zero water for you). Its hard to push blackdog out the way and let the good into our soul. Noticing is half the battle. It helps to realise "theres a flupside to everything, something good to be found in everything, when we look hard enough. Just finding an alternative perspective can evoke a more energising emotion. Then, we have to hook onto the good feeling and let it into our soul. I still struggle with this. Habir, practise mKes perfecr. Louise Hay promotes affirmations. Sometimes, to make it work, really take it into my soul and back out, I have to close my eyes, rock in the rocking chair and breathe deep, breathe it in, pat my own heart and smile. You can do it Teej. Russ Harris has a good bk with exercises like this called "Reality Slap" actually, you've prompted me to get back unto it myself. Thanks. Be strong.

Re: Sleeping too much

Today is a far better day than last night where I woke up and then had severe SI for about 4 hours and ended up on lifeline for the first time in weeks@Former-Member so I'll take this any day, just feeling ok with no bad thoughts for now. AND enjoying my Iced Coffee.

What is the weather like where you are @Faith-and-Hope?

Re: Sleeping too much

Hi @Appleblosson, I agree with "being on the lookout" for joyful things. We get out of the habit (should I say - depression tends to cloud or dull everything). And yes, how often do we switch off ALL emotion, so we don't feel the bad, blocking feeling the good as well. Can it be that somehow letting yourself face & feel the pain from the bad can actually open me to the good? Or, does magnifying the good push away the bad?. Oh dear, now I'm cofusing myself. Hmm, you always make mW think Apple. Hope you're ok

Re: Sleeping too much

@Former-Member My therapist is a big fan of Russ Harris and has been to lots of his trainings. I have a copy of his books The happiness trap, The confidence gap and The reality slap. I read them about 4 years ago. Maybe it's time to get them out again.

Re: Sleeping too much

I think you are right @Former-Member, @Appleblossom. This year I closed up all emotions trying to turn them all off so I couldnt be hurt anymore. I think it has backfired now I'm heading out into the real world more often and I am more vulnerable. But I definitely turned off happiness and joy and wouldn't let myself feel those things if I didn't feel like I deserve to which happens to be never.

Re: Sleeping too much

Oh @Former-Member, sounds like a hard hard night last night for you. Sorry these times come over you, well done getting through it. I lkw our conversations, you're 'real' Do you find nature makes you feel joy on the inside? I do. Guess I get a little delusional in this king on purpose that its all there just for me, because I am with it, lol, including the butterfly that floats by in front of my face. Yes I smile, take a breath and tell myself 'I'm blessed!)/
