Re: Sleeping too much
I am sorry about your Mum @TAB
And you are not the bad son - no - you live 2,000 miles away - and she has dementia I think you said - would she know you were there
I understand this more that I like - my mother would snarl and me to get out - screaming it so everyone could here - so I guess if you are a bad son I was a bad daughter - I didn't go for 2.5 years - sending cards and letters often yes - and telling her I would visit if she wanted to see me but in all those years - not a word - nothing
So I gave her what she wanted -
So if things like distance and lack of cash and dementia and not being required in some way count - why put ourselves through it?
You are planning to see her at Christmas - that's good - I hope it works out for you
But you are not a bad son - for that - no - you have to care for yourself

Re: Sleeping too much
Sister lives an hour and a half away from my mother works 36hr wk, no kids at home, about to retire at 52 has a new car and is extremely well off, plays the guilt card is very quick to anger and insults. She has been trying to poison the well re inheritances for years while playing the victim re 'bad son' flippant comments.
Mother does not have dementia. She is often very heavily medicated. She has been in hospital last week, so even more so at the moment. She makes perfect sense, sharp as a tack and funny in the mornings, operations aside, but if ring her around 5pm, she's totally dosed up and doesn't make make much sense. Well she has been in a home for about 2 years, so I guess she is on sleepers and anti anxiety meds, and yes, sister did talk to drs and it is stuff that they are giving her to stop her going mad being shut up in a box all day re home. and thanks for your thoughts @Decadian

Re: Sleeping too much
..she was my biggest fan at early age re 'umor lol. @Former-Member well, as a kid, school hols etc grade 5 maybe, had the room rolling around in laughter a few times lol, sometimes untintentionally .. hahaha and yes, was favorite son, well til a certain age haha And it's fine, nothing I can change, it's not really sad, it is what it is and has been going on for years ..am sounding like a sook now, was all just from 'bad son' comment few days ago ..tis what it is

Re: Sleeping too much
Hi @TAB
Aw - I am so glad your mother doesn't have dementia - that is a heart breaking condition - terribly hard on families
It sounds as if your sister has the lot and is perhaps toxic like my sister - and wants the inheritance herself. That is harder than she thinks btw.
Wills can be challenged - people who feel they have been left out for all sorts of reason can successfully challenge wills - and they can succeed - sometimes people favour one child over the others and then that child behaves in such a way to maintain that control - but any adult child who feels they have not been provided for can challenge successfully - I learned this watching Insight - it happens more than people think
I am glad your mother is open and chatting etc in the mornings - but it seems as if hospitals are too hard for her - I know this - I feel as if I am in prison in a public hospital
I hope you can get the cash to visit your mother at Christmas - I think you are on short commons yourself atm - perhaps there are agencies who can help you if you need to see your ailing mother at Christmas
All the best with that - it can be hard when you live so far away from people
Keep us up to date on all of this @TAB - where does your mother live the rest of the time?

Re: Sleeping too much
mother is fine, well despite recent operation. She is in a home usually. She has her own room and toilet tv etc, just bored and not very mobile, and happy enough. Sister's beef with inheritances is that parents want to give more to the children that need it(read me) than the ones that are more than well off thank you very much
@Decadian anyway won't go into details but 2 off them are set up to live very comfortably til 120 if they live that long, one comfortable if a bit careful, and moi well, will be sleeping in a bush, trying to steal pies and hoping there are slow rabbits to catch lol
anyway that's life

Re: Sleeping too much
That is hurtful, toxic in family dynamics...at best just don't take on her deal. I know you probably don't have much to do with her, given there's reason for that. Ahh family dynamics...tough, so tough!
My family kind of same. I love them all, but too lengthy amount of time with them & I start getting angry.
You have a good heart..I'm hoping you do get to see your mum.
Do what it takes to get there...I think!.😊
