Re: Sleeping too much
Grabbed you a cream donut @Former-Member because we are talking harm minimisation otherwise I would have grabbed a bottle of wine but we'd have to share it😊
@utopia it was my sons 1 year anniversary tonight. How cute. He took her out for tea and had bought her a necklace. They are so good together, I'm very lucky. I think my son would have hidden it at 14 as well. My sons girlfriend went to a different school so it's a bit hard for him to hide it. It sees her 3-4 times a week. She's just got her Ps and a car so they are now independent a bit.
@Former-Member Great to see you chime in with health advice😂 To back up @Faith-and-Hope. Not sure what food category liquorice is in.

@TAB
Dad told me I could have a glass of beer on my 15th birthday - and I was waiting hoping he would keep his promise - he usually did - but my mother was having her say about me drinking alcohol -
But Dad finally gave me my first beer - and last beer - I had a mouth full of disgusting bubbles - it was not at all what I thought it would be - I had watched other people enjoying beer for years - and this was terrible
But do not be afearede - in time I found I like Baileys or an Australian Fortified Wine - I don't like bubbles in my drink much at all - unless it's cola - but I do enjoy a nice glass of Tawney or Muscat on a cold afternoon
But my memory returns to the cold but sunny afternoon when we went on a picnic for my birthday and I found beer a bitter disappointment
I have another great beer story but it can keep

I remember the chocolate crackles @TAB
But they were so sickening, I could only manage one or two of them!

Re: Sleeping too much
Hi @utopia and @Former-Member
I get flashbacks from my accident at the same time as I have them from my son dying - it was only two days - not two years - after the accident
I don't feel guilty or that I was in any way to blame that my son chose to suicide on that day - but only he chose because it was the last gasp in his mind I think - he was maybe thinking I would get him out of Juvenile Detention - because I had got him out of trouble so often during his life - but Juvey was something I could not help him with
Still I think my mind runs that way - and that's why I am interested in EMDR - the distraction of having something physical to do - one other thing I have tried and it has worked is snapping a rubber band on my wrist when an unpleasant thought sneaks into my brain - I have an idea it is a similar thing - though it could become a form of SH if overdone - I don't do that now
I wonder though - thinking of the brain map and the idea of pushing memories to the place where we have our old memories - we can still access them - but they are not in our frontal cortex - well there are two - one on each side of the brain - and our thinking goes between these two areas - and the eye-movement is a way of distracting us - making us multi-task - having a choice between remembering a thought that is not longer useful but still has a place - or having it literally between our eyes
As for the science - of course - the eye-movement of an unpleasant memory is right below the frontal cortex - and that makes perfect sense
This is really interesting - I haven't read much about this yet - but I will - and let you know what I come up with - and I will be alone but I might practise this alone if I find myself having flashbacks to the accident and my son's death - because that is an old memory - one I will never lose - but one I don't need boucing around in the working part of my memory
This is really great stuff and I will be glad to hear if it works for other people
