Re: Sleeping too much

Hi Guys, taken me an hour to write this post & see there's much happened in that time, will come back after a break.

@Decadian, was thinking more in terms that you & I live alone, not like most here with family in house, coming & going, keeping them busy. I Forgot you have carers in & out, its your back if I remember correctly, yes? The retired nurse inside me wants to know more, but only if you're ready to say. Switching to Community Work was different, but I have a pretty good understanding about such things.

I don't need help at this stage really. Could have done with it, the practical help on occasions though, especially after the breakdown hospitalisations & during prolonged depressive episodes. The company alone, as shallow at it would be, might be nice. But paying for it, to me that's like demanding flowers from a boyfriend 😕

About funerals, Lets talk about this taboo subject a while. First, sorry Decadian that you feel that alone, that nobody would come to your funeral, I felt really sad for you, but I've had the same thoughts. I'm sure a lot of people do, as we struggle to work out where we fit in, in this life. Who really cares, and how much we're valued etc. Had this discussion with a church friend recently. All she could say, kindly, was "you might be surprised"

At my daughters funeral we ran out of seats. Still don't understand that. A school thing I guess (and she was awesome of cause). All 4 of my brothers didn't bother coming to her funeral, their only niece, (still can't get my head around that one).

I think Funerals are as much for the living as for for the departed. My Aunty told me recently she doesn't want a funeral. How naieve am I, i thought it was the law of the land tho have a funeral, didn't realise we had a choice. I mistakenly equated a funeral service to a 'burial' but apparently they're two separate things, only one is law. And to think I've been paying off a funeral plan all these years, to not burden family, for a likely 'no show' anyway (sucked in again). Gotta laugh sometimes. But I still would have had a service for my girl. To honour her. For anyone who is not offered the same respect as I showed my girl, frankly, its more an indictment on the living than the departed.

Seems some have already said their goodbyes privately, before someone die. My sister wont talk to me for 4yrs now. Tells people she doesn't have a sister 😕 Why would o want people like that at my funeral anyway!

Personal, I always thought it was important to make appearance for BIRTHS, BAPTISMS, DEATHS & MARRIAGES, but that's just me, and if I feel welcome. But reality is its only for those who have the strength of character to make the effort.

Oh dear, I've rambled again, but thanks for letting me have a place to. Hope its not too morbid.

I need a cup of TEA, join me 🙂
Raining here today.

Re: Sleeping too much

That saddens me too @Former-Member, @Decadian...thinking no one would come to your funeral. I just went to drag my 1 yr old inside from heading into the road, & noticed an ambulance next door. The lady is early 40's, her daughter a teen. You never know what happens to other people. I feel this morning has been heavy on the forum's. 😞.. but do know you are both valued & appreciated. Here's to a cup of tea! ☕

Re: Sleeping too much

Hi @Former-Member - wonderfully sunny here this morning - I am sitting just inside the front door typing away happily - this is a good place to talk about our lives

Yes - I have recently thought that it is always me who reaches out to people in the family - years of chronic pain have caused me to retreat from the world a bit - but through electronic media I keep in touch with some cousins - and my dd and I text - but I have a huge family really - but there is someone - TS - who thoughtlessly lies and her lies are not even clever - and she seems blissfully unaware that I do not care about her lles - just sick of over 60 years of someone's else's cheap shots - she has no power over me

But she hurt my parents, my daughter and her son with all of this bitter behaviour - I feel anger for what TS has done to other people - my parents suffered terrible regret - my dd believed the lie or lies - how would I know why and how many - and did not give me a chance to defend myself

Even a criminal is present when and indictment is read - I have not been that lucky - and I fall into an area of "non-argument" which works for me.

So I live in a divided family - and it goes back through the generations - and too many stories to tell - but that's the guts of it.

If people can't get past this in life - why bother in death? There is an episode in Little House on the Prairie where an elderly lady has been ignored by her three children she involves other people in having her funeral while she is still alive - and how true - all her kids get to see her then - great story - but I am not into that - just think sometimes how ridiculous all of this is - and leave other people to themselves

Yes - I do have a damaged spine - I have Degenerative Disc Disease from L2/L3 to L5/S1 with severe end plate damage on the lower verterbae and spinal cord canal stenosis at L4/L5 and L5/S1 - I attribute most of this to the sporting excesses of my youth - I played cricket and was a spin-bowler - that puts a tremendous twist through the spine - and I also ran for miles on concrete - until I was in my late forties -

I tried a lot of treatments in the past - and now use walking as my main exercise - and glad it is sunny today because I am more likely to get out and walk in the sun - I am looking forward to spring and being able to talk walks after sunset - that is my favourite time

Meditation and prayer help - I find these tend to blend rather - but whatever it is - I can really relax if I can find the right spot. The cat as learned not to annoy me when I am doing this - and having her there if she doesn't walk all over me is really helpful - animals seem to help a lot - I believe in Pet Therapy

Yes - we do both live alone - so there are the evenings - how great it was to find the Night Shift here - and being able to come on-line and find the conversation and just jump in and be accepted - this site is so great that way - and this way - I do not feel as isolated as I used to when I was in the other website in the States - I would get on when they were all going to bed so there was never the chatting that happens here - how fast time flies - I don't watch as much TV as I used to

That was a great post - yours and the response - I am not inclined to fight with people in my family - no doubt that I will see them when our elderly relatives pass on - as we all must

Thanks @Former-Member - it might be a forbidden subject in some circles but I don't see it that way - people do legally have to have some kind of service - a couple of professional witnesses called in and words said - no one is tossed into a hole or throw onto a fire without ceremony - the dead to have this some honour.

But yes - it is for the living not the dead - the dead do not need it - but while we are living we might like to see those we have missed so much during our life time for reasons that we not our doing

Decadian

Re: Sleeping too much

Thanks @Former-Member

I made myself a bug cup of coffee at your suggestion of tea - I have a tea story I could tell - short story - I like tea made in a pot and will sometimes do that

Funerals - I have written a reply to @Former-Member - and it is sad when family can't drag themselves to see someone while they are alive - my son was a charismatic person - very popular - and the church was packed to over-flowing and there were many people ourside - but this is true when young people die - older people - less so - but my Dad had a pretty good sized funeral - my mother too I suppose - but I have been alienated most of my life and wonder at my TS for doing what she does and has done

But except for my sorrow about this - it's the way it is and I live my life to suit myself and my writing is always important - where ever I am writing and why

Thinking back any years though - what we think about can say a lot about ourselves to ourselves - and I have fantastic memories - so glad I do - not everyone is so lucky

So here's the thing - I could have made a choice to fit into my family better - that would have been degrading but I could have - however I doubt whether it would have gained me any popularity points - I am glad I lived the way I did - my memories are so great - maybe like fine wine they improve with time but I can take a long drive in my mediations and remember the sacred and the terrible about driving above the snow line - or for miles along the Great Ocean Road or riding my bike along the Yarra

Thanks for your thoughts - they are taken well - and appreciated

Decadian

Re: Sleeping too much

Oh my goodness, don't know if to laugh or cry, on another thread the auto correct changed the word subscide to suicide, causing me to, advise a suicidal person to stay in hospital until the suicidal thoughts suicide 😕
Always putting my foot in it, grrr

On a lighter note, i'm now receiving email notifications whwn taggwd, so thats encouraging me.

my day has been really quiet, peaceful, gentle rain out, gentle thoughts. I, tidied up a little, watched a couple of movies, made a cake, paid 2 overdue bills (by pH), & had some yummy magic soup. Wow, come the think of it that's not too bad.

What's everyone else been doing? You all seem quiet.
