Oh @TAB its tough trying to organise life from a car .. thinking of you ..
I love the phrase "siblial shoulder punch" ... can I borrow it ... I do it a lot .. but in slomo ... with a very gentle touch ... cos I have neck injury and cannot handle being jostled .. but i like the vitality in the gesture.
Can I pleez say something in favour of our COPING PERSONAS?
They were learned in coping with tough circs ... and are not necessarily fake ... they are just not the whole truth of us ...none of us are even as simple of having just 2 personas .. most of us have more ...
the problem is with the way we often tend to use dualisms in language ...
so if we get down on ourselves about not being authentic ... because we went into coping mode .. rather than wearing our heart on our sleeve .. that need not not be bad .... we need more than 2 ways of thinking about ourselves .. wise mind might say ... good move ... find better place to open up wounds ...
ANYWAY that was the jist of a concept I learned doing PSYCHODRAMA DIRECTING & TRAINING with Max Clayton and Sue Daniels bak in the 80s.

.. @Appleblossomjust invented that word as in re 'sisterly' as in yeah well .. oh .. and glad to hear your 10Ba memories lol, well it's definitely not the same country now tho lol, even Menzies is far left compared to now, let alone Goughs tinkerings.. yeah, no 'one for all ' it's all for me and try and stop me re re aust 'society' ,, I don't think Australia I grew up in exists anymore, well, I know it doesn't. It's all greed and 'American Dream', one rule for the few, another for the the rest, while giving assets away to multinationals; giving huge benefits and advantages to anyone who has good 'sales' skills and a good accountant.. not happy Jan

Re: Sleeping too much
On Monday I heard Duncan Hose .. and bought a book .. you might appreciate his poems ... google them ... there are a few online ... I always support good struggling artists as opposed to mainstream well-to-do ones.
he asked the audience about instances of the Australian Imaginary .. dumbstruck silence .. so I popped up "stubby in hand" .. and we got interactive ... but most there were of the younger generation ... and I felt they had been silenced by the political correctness problem ..
... there are some who still believe in some of the good qualities that were around when we were young.. dont give up yet.![]()

Well said @Appleblossom .... ❣
Was trying to work out a response to the "fake persona" bit when I got a bit caught up ion Night Shift ...
Have you heard of Inner Family Systems ? It's the idea that our personality is made up of a set of sub-personalities, so it's one of our sub-personalities that steps up in that coping role when we feel the need to shield other facets of ourselves .... I have learned to do that quite deliberately, in that I will move into a polite and formal mode to deal efficiently with people who are difficult or invasive ....
I am sure many nurses, teachers, shop-keepers, etc do the same thing when dealing with "difficult customers" using a very professional sub-personality character role.
As you said, if you can accept that that particular persona is serving a need at the time, it helps in accepting ourselves, I think, and appreciating that we are multi-faceted .... and it's allowed ....

Hi @Former-Member
A sudden rise in noise in activity is one thing that sends my back pain into overdrive and I can faint from the distortion of my hearing and my vision - so I think it's stress related
So I would be outside with you I think - about a fake persona - maybe - I tend to think rather protective persona or maybe survival - or "we are busy making a new one and this is the latest prototype"
Okay - I dunno if I would have anything brilliant to say after a bad time like you had - not right away anyhow - but - I do have something I think after the event - sometimes years after when something springs to mind - like
"No on else remembers that now and if they do they have forgotten who said what when and where and how"
I hope tomorrow is better - and I don't think we can structure events too much until they happen - plans yes - but chaos no -
Sleep well @Former-Member - ![]()

Re: Sleeping too much
My family therapist said in the early 90s .. I would make a great systems therapist and I have read heaps ...in many MODALITIES.. and can apply it.
but when I actually tried to do more postgrad .. training I got put to the bottom of the class .. by a bitchy intake lady who said as I did my 1st degree part time it showed there were things wrong with me ... as if little kids who live off their parents dont have things wrong with them ...hmmm...
and are actually in a position to advise people with twice the life experience ...but at the time ... I was mousy and did what I was told and just completed a Cert IV instead ... but cos I was over qualified ... the lecturer was a bit uncertain .. she knew I knew more than her .. and was diplomatic .. hmm ..yeah ... I have been often doomed when I did ... and doomed when I dont ... still hanging in there though.
I have just found a new psychologist (3 mths ago) who has enough quals and humilty for us to sift through that stuff ... she talks to me collegially .. as anything else would be ridiculous and she knows it .. so maybe I am finally getting somewhere.![]()
