Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Edit: This has evolved to become a vent thread and supportive thread. Everyone is welcome to come, vent. say hello, and especially seek support with their intrusive thoughts.

--

I've been newly diagnosed with GAD, depression and OCD. I'm in my mid 30s and have been dealing with this stuff my entire adult life. The tipping point was severe post natal depression that I almost didn't survive. I'm getting help for me, but also because I don't want my kid to pick up my issues.

Often my intrusive thoughts are about world events, but at the moment they're suicidal. They push their way into everything i do/think and I'm so exhausted, just trying to ignore them. It's scary and I'm suffering insomnia. I'm currently off work for this week while I adjust to new meds, and my GP and psychologist are suggesting hospitalisation.

I've been trying mindfulness and exercise, as well as limiting alcohol (which I find hard).

So I guess I'm looking for suggestions and support. This mental health journey is so new for me and I feel very alone. I want to make it through this.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. I just also want to state that I am currently safe and with family.

Dear @Molliex

You did so well to talk to your husband last night about your SI and SH. Yes ... I definitely believe that its a good thing!

Its natural that he is upset and devastated to hear about all this, and probably feels a sense of guilt that he didnt know, or guess what was happening for you. I think its a great idea that you made an appointment for him to talk to your GP. It sounds as though he wants to do as much as possible to help support you in any way he can. One of the best ways is to be armed with information and knowledge, and he's well on his way with that.

So how did your appointment with the psychiatrist go today? If you're up to saying, that as. Honestly .. no pressure, just when you're ready and if you feel it would help to talk ... we're all here.

It went ok. Just feeling a bit fragile now, so can't go into it. I have physical pain from SH, and that's really bothering me. It's trending in bad direction. Psychiatrist knows about it and they'll write to my GP, who I'll see Tuesday. Thanks for checking in @Former-Member @eth @Angels333

Hope you're all well and having a nice morning. Hello to anyone else passing through 👋🌻

Re: Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Thanks for checking in @Molliex . Really sorry to hear of the physical pain you are also enduring. Take some time to rest up and allow recovery and healing to take place. I guess its a holiday for you tomorrow, so no work. Two gentle days for you to regain some equilibrium before back to work, GP apt, trip away, etc. Going to be pretty full on after tomorrow by the sounds of things. I'm so glad your hubby is now aware, as I feel sure its an additional safety net for you. Especially when you are going away and will be away from your usual supports, including here. I'm sure he will be very supportive. Ummm ... is your hubby going too, or is he staying home to look after little one? Hmmm, not sure now. No need to respond ... I'm rambling. Please take care.

Sherry

Hey @Molliex , thanks for checking in. Sorry to read you are so fragile atm, but it's understandable. Will you see the Psychiatrist again sometime soon? Sending hugs (((💕💕💕)))

Hi @Former-Member. I'm going over first, and my husband and daughter will follow 5 days later. It's going to be very full on. I hope tweaking meds helps asap, because SH behaviour is not good.

Thanks for your support. I'm thinking of you x

I'll see them in 4 weeks @Angels333. I see my GP Tuesday. Trying to distract myself to stop SH. I know how hard you struggle too. I hope you're well tonight 💕🦋
