Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Edit: This has evolved to become a vent thread and supportive thread. Everyone is welcome to come, vent. say hello, and especially seek support with their intrusive thoughts.

--

I've been newly diagnosed with GAD, depression and OCD. I'm in my mid 30s and have been dealing with this stuff my entire adult life. The tipping point was severe post natal depression that I almost didn't survive. I'm getting help for me, but also because I don't want my kid to pick up my issues.

Often my intrusive thoughts are about world events, but at the moment they're suicidal. They push their way into everything i do/think and I'm so exhausted, just trying to ignore them. It's scary and I'm suffering insomnia. I'm currently off work for this week while I adjust to new meds, and my GP and psychologist are suggesting hospitalisation.

I've been trying mindfulness and exercise, as well as limiting alcohol (which I find hard).

So I guess I'm looking for suggestions and support. This mental health journey is so new for me and I feel very alone. I want to make it through this.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. I just also want to state that I am currently safe and with family.

Sorry to hear things are frustrating @outlander. I have been a bit in my own bubble and haven't been following everyone else as much.

I know your surgery date must be getting closer? I hope you're managing to get some sleep 💜🦋🌻

I'm still here. A bit worried I've started using SH to distract from SI. Hoping the med change helps soon 🌻

Glad you're hopeful @Angels333. Do you have anything on today?

I'm ok. Have a couple of nice things on today, so hopefully I can distract myself with positive things 💜

Thats ok @Molliex we all go into our own bubbles at times. Sometimes its a form of self protection as well.

I use to do the same thing with SH. I was so overwhelmed by SI that seemed the quickest and easiest way to cope and just desparate to get the mind to be quiet even for a little while. Things in my world were really tough and didn't know how to manage anything so was on the edge already. SH soon become an addiction. I stopped trying to cope or listening to other methods that mightve helped such as distractions so trying to fight my way back out of that was really hard, mix that with being unable to cope with things in my world, constant appointments to professionals (even though i know they were trying their best to help and keep me safe) it also led to a breakdown and led to planning one of my attempts that i intended to carry out once i was finished at the appointment but was put in hospital before i had the chance to act on it. Im very much aware how easy it is to turn to that and also how hard SI and SH urges are to control but please find some other ways that might help. If your not sure of some ways to cope, im more then happy to share some of mine with you.
Sorry that ended up as a long winded post, but wanted to show you that i understand that worry, scariness, overwhelm, uncertainty and all that goes with it.
Im here for you.
