Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

Hello @Shaz51, hope you enjoy your reunion. There's some big families on both my parents' sides, but we're not in contact with most of them. I've re-contacted with a few since my parents have been in aged care (which has meant I've become caretaker of the address book) so that's been one positive to come out of a lot of difficult changes. 🙂 I'm sure there were a few that were pleasantly surprised to get a Christmas card from us...

@Shaz51 Sounds like the original couple had their own version of the Brady bunch 😄 The very best for all of it, sounds like a very rare event for you all to gather in one spot. Enjoy!

Hi @Smc

Sometimes there is a time for creativity to take centre stage after kids get older. School productions can be great for kids ...

Yep we did the V for V... thing and Star Trek and lots of sc-fi television series.... which gave us lots of sociological discussion ... with all the different worlds ...

My son sees Marvel stuff with his dad .. and doesnt bother me with it .. which is thoughtful really.

@Former-Member waves to you ... love the level you add to our chats

@Shaz51 fantastic work .. and good luck with it .. dont stress too much .. F&H can make up some adult play doh .. and you can all destress sitting around the table ... etc. ..

@Appleblossom Yep me too. I love all the Gene Roddenberry Star Trek series. Not sure which is my favourite. So many great characters and so many great story lines. Gnostic themes run heavily through it, like in The Matrix and LOTR. I think Gene Roddenberry was a genius at his craft. (oh punny there wasn't I?) :face_with_rolling_eyes:

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Appleblossom@Former-Member...

I had hoped that the creative work would kick in as the paid work for me to move into when PP timed out. It takes a while to build a craft business up to wage-paying level. I'll be starting over from scratch whenever I can return to it, because by now my public profile has dwindled to a whisper. That's the hardest bit to develop... partially because it's not as satisying as the actual creative work, but it needs to be done. Nothing sells if no-one knows, and the starving artist thing is very romanticised but not particularly viable.

I somehow never got into Star Trek. I've always leant more towards the British series. Dr Who, Blakes 7. (I've concluded that the US Firefly series makes a good B-7 replacement. A bunch of mismatched mercenaries and rebels under a revolutionary leader who lost the war but then managed to acquire an interesting ship, and some interesting situations along with it.)

@Smc Firefly.... of Joss Whedon Buffy ilk... loved it, but they didn't make enough of it. LIke so many shows I really like it got canned all too soon. 😞 Unless it has been resurrected? I know there was a push to try to get it to be but I didn't think it was successful.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

There's a movie "Serenity" which was a clever interlude that could either be a "wrap up" point or a springboard for a slightly different direction in the storyline. Which is also something that Blakes 7 did with the last episode of every series they made, just in case the next one didn't get funded. So dunno, stay tuned… Ron Glass who played Shepherd Book died last year , but the scriptwriters could work around his absence via the movie.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Have fun @Smc .... 😊💕

We had a long weekend last weekend, but I have chosen a normal weekend to go away with the kids shortly to avoid traffic chaos .... there are fewer regular getaway spots on our coast I think .... so we're all on the state's arterial roads on long weekends, gets very congested.

Hope you get some good relax time in there.
