Something’s not right

Need a little help tonight

Need a little help tonight

I’ve had a pretty terrible last couple of weeks. My husband and I had an argument a couple of weeks ago about something that has affected our (to put it bluntly) sex life - something that is a direct connection to my past CSA. I’m still rattled about it.

This argument happened while I was under a huge amount of stress when my mum was in hospital. Moving forward to now and I have now moved in with my mum now she’s out of hossie as she needs round the clock care. I have managed to convince her Dr to drop one of her medications that was giving her hallucinations and now she is essentially going through withdrawals for the last 2 days and refuses to eat or drink - which is a problem in itself as she is diabetic. Tonight I threatened to put her back in hospital so she did eventually eat 1/2 a sandwich.

Today my husband and I had a couples counseling session - and the session was spent talking about that argument. I had to relive the events of the CSA and describe the feelings that it still brought up in me now. I was crying and shaking - I can still see it all like it happened just yesterday, not 40+years ago.

I used to disassociate a lot when I was a child, and through today’s session I’ve learned that I do it a lot as an adult but in a different way.

Tonight I’m feeling very triggered, I feel very shaky inside, I feel like I can’t breathe deeply, I just want to cry but

most of all I feel extremely frightened. I have a particular vision in my head that I just can’t get out. I had to describe that moment from long ago today and now it won’t leave me alone.

Has anyone had any experiences like this, how did you cope with it? I don’t want to sleep tonight, I’m scared of closing my eyes and only seeing this vision.

Hey @Razzle Home from work and checking in on you

How has your mum been today Hon and how are those visions of yours? Did you get any sleep last night?

@Zoe7 @Ali11

Today started ok-ish. Mum had to get up out of bed and shower before the district nurse came to redress her foot- she has a pressure sore on it but it is healing thank goodness.

Had to force her to eat a piece of toast. Come lunchtime I had to force her to eat again. She had a few bites and didn’t want anymore so I had a few stern words with her. I told her she was forcing me to put her into respite, which was a stepping stone into the nursing home. I told her the hossie didn’t want to discharge her as it was, they wanted her straight into the nursing home but allowed her to go home because I had said I was moving in. I said if you keep this up and make yourself sick and end up back in hossie they’re not going to allow you to come home because it will look like I can’t care for you. With that she ate the rest of her lunch.

We went to my brothers house for tea tonight. I dished up her meal, only a small serve and she didn’t say anything, just started eating. She didn’t eat it all, but it’s more than she’s eaten in a while.

I got a reminder text today that I have a hair appointment tomorrow - thank goodness for reminders. It’s in a neighboring town so she’ll be home alone tomorrow afternoon for a while which I think she will manage pretty well.

I did get to sleep pretty quick last night, but woke after a couple of hours and was awake for quite a while after that. The vision was still swirling around my head but I managed to get back to sleep, if only for an hour or 2 before I had to get up myself. I’ve kept myself busy today so the vision has been on and off. I still have it but I don’t feel as anxious about it at the moment.

I have a one on one session with my councillor Thursday so hopefully he can give me some techniques on how to handle this better.

@Zoe7 I hope your day went smoothly and you didn’t have to stay too late at work.

Re: Need a little help tonight

So many positives in your day @Razzle That talk you gave your mum certainly seemed like it worked. I hope she continues to eat and that makes it a little easier for you.

I think it is wonderful you have a hair appointment tomorrow - you need some time to yourself and a bit of pampering - enjoy the timeout Hon

I didn't need to stay too long tonight - left about 4pm which was much earlier than I expected to leave. Have to go in early tomorrow to organise some things I didn't get done today - just finished organising it all now. I am going to do a 'getting to know you' page with the kids - just as much for me as for them. Then we will put it all ontolarge jigsaw puzzle pieces and display it as a jigsaw in the classroom. They can decorate the jigsaw pieces as they like, The idea is that each piece represents a different person but all together it represents the class - hope it works!

@Zoe7 The jigsaw sounds like a great idea, the kids would love it. What age do you teach?

Re: Need a little help tonight

On a 1/2 class this term so ages 6 and 7 @Razzle Never had this age group before so it is all really new for me. I have been working in all the 1/2 classes a couple of times a week this year so far so at least know the kids a little. I am both looking forward to it and really nervous - just have to see how tomorrow goes!

Re: Need a little help tonight

@Zoe7 That’s a great age to work with, they haven’t developed an attitude yet. You’ll do great, you sound very

organised, I think the kids will love it.

Re: Need a little help tonight

Thanks @Razzle Not quite as organised as I would like to be but slowly getting there. I will do a lot more on my day off on Thursday now I have a bit more of an idea of what we are doing. It does help having a team of the other 1/2 teachers around me and most of them have had this grade for many years so what I don't know I can ask them. ...and they are lovely people so they are only too happy to help.

Are you getting anything special done with your hair tomorrow or just a trim?

In response to: Re: Need a little help tonight

Re: Need a little help tonight

@Zoe7 I have my hair coloured every 6 - 8 weeks, don’t always get it trimmed unless it’s a bit endy and dry.

Im glad you have nice co-workers that are happy to help you, nothing worse than being in a job you love but the people you work with are nasty. I’ve been lucky in the jobs I’ve had, only had one workplace where a colleague wasn’t a nice person.

Re: Need a little help tonight

That was my workplace at the end of last year @Razzle I couldn't continue to work there as there had been some unkind things said and done that made it impossible for me to feel safe there. One of those was a supposed friend who disclosed part of my MI battle and that is certainly not something I could (or should of) had to deal with. It made it very uncomfortable to be there so I requested a transfer this year. The school I am at presently is only a temporary placement but will be for the remainder of the year. I am very much hoping to stay at this school but I also know it is a popular school for other teachers to want to move to so it is unlikely I will be able to stay past this year. That is unfortunate but it is the system we work in

I haven't been to a hairdresser in over 20 years. I cut my own hair which is pretty easy because it is long and easy to do. I have been putting the same colour in for nearly that time as well. I did think about going back to the original olour but there is too much grey coming through now so it is good to cover that
