EMDR - Has anyone done this

EMDR - Has anyone done this

Hi all, i have had 1 session with a new psychologist who i like, but she has suggested we do a number of sessions of EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming. Apart from the cost factor which i rly cant afford, im pretty nervous about the whole thing. Supposedly it desensitises u to past trauma and its affects but things like this rly scare me. As any of u that i hav bn communicating with know i am going thru an extremely difficult time right now and im not sure that digging up or re-experiencing past traumas is the best way for me to go right now, even if the idea is to reduce the traumatic nature of those events. Im scared enough of the trauma and torture im going through right now! Id rly appreciate any feedback from anyone that has had this type of thereapy. I am seein her on monday and we are supposed to be devising our treatment plan so i need to make a decision by then. I have tagged some of my forum friends in but please feel free to tag anyone else in that u think might be able to provide some feedback.

Council got back to me today.

They assured me i can return to pool next week.

They said they spoke to the lessor rather than horrible girl at front counter.

She said girl at counter has been removed as of today.

I think this stemmed from the lessor tho & that shes had a huge wake up call.

Ill be keen to see the aqua teachers reaction when i return.

She was trying to settle me after it happened but we with a mi know thats not easy once you are triggered. We r usually triggered by people doing saying the wrong things too.

The council assured me i hadnt done anything wrong.

I cant control people asking me what i do in another teachers class.

Actually ive been in a class & saw a yoga teacher there. She got asked what she did too & she said she was a yoga teacher.

Ex teachers often go into someone elses class because thats what we do exercise!!! Idiots who dont get that

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

Hi everyone 😊

This conversation is super helpful around EMDR and everyones experiences.@Doglover this is a great thread and thank you for bringing it to the community! As it has developed and continues to develop, I was thinking it might be better suited to the 'our stories' area? This is not to stop the conversation happening at all though, it can just be a bit helpful for navigating around the forum if a thread shifts or develops further and deeper (which is a wonderful thing!) Thought I'd move it across this afternoon - just wanted to let you all know and make sure you knew where it will be! 🌻

Not sure where the EMDR thread has gone to. I couldnt find it.

Anyway today i had another session. I told psychologist about last 2 triggers.

We spent this session going over how the last sessions had affected me.

Told him my mother contacts me & it doesnt hurt me as much. Doesnt upset me as mum. I just see her as she is & am more accepting that just is a selfish person.

We prepared for next session which is going to be about what army did to me. I was awol almost 3mnths fighting a case then locked in solitary confinement & punished when i wasnt supposed to be. So its a biggy as i

Was only 19. I was completely traumatized after it. A long sentence. Came out very thin. I dont remember a lot & theres quite a lot of blank memory after it.

So im looking forward to finding out how it really affected me. What thoughts were going whilst i was locked up. There was no outside contact once u got in there. Im filing a dva claim at the moment as i was wrongfully sentenced.

Anyway it definitely works.

Update u all next wk

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@Former-Member, thanks for the updates. It's really positive the progress that you are making with the treatment. Sounds like a pretty confronting session coming up in regard to your time in the army. It must have been so traumatic to have no outside contact, how long did this go on for?

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@Former-Member,

Thats horrendous. I really hope you get some compensation from what they did to you. It must have felt like forever in that kind of environment. I'm so sorry that this happened to you. It's mind boggling that it would occur in these times, it really is.

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@Gazza75

I had to write what happened for this report. Golly that was painful. Took about 3 writes.belched crying reliving it.

I wasnt on a strong mood stabilizer either so it was terribly painful.

Im really interested to c what emotions thoughts come up when i do it next wk tho. I love this therapy. I find it so fascinating how traumas r linked & how the brain processes things.

So glad im having this done. Really feel for those that cant afford it tho.

The system really needs to address that

Bpd is trauma & its documented that EMDR is proven the best therapy for trauma.

So it should be available for bpd sufferers in my opinion
