EMDR - Has anyone done this

EMDR - Has anyone done this

Hi all, i have had 1 session with a new psychologist who i like, but she has suggested we do a number of sessions of EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming. Apart from the cost factor which i rly cant afford, im pretty nervous about the whole thing. Supposedly it desensitises u to past trauma and its affects but things like this rly scare me. As any of u that i hav bn communicating with know i am going thru an extremely difficult time right now and im not sure that digging up or re-experiencing past traumas is the best way for me to go right now, even if the idea is to reduce the traumatic nature of those events. Im scared enough of the trauma and torture im going through right now! Id rly appreciate any feedback from anyone that has had this type of thereapy. I am seein her on monday and we are supposed to be devising our treatment plan so i need to make a decision by then. I have tagged some of my forum friends in but please feel free to tag anyone else in that u think might be able to provide some feedback.

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@Gazza75

In this town it seems to be mostly fb. The council have advertised it on their website. I havent come across any noticeboards actually.

Makes it even harder not knowing the place.

Im good at what i do but the advertising side isnt my strong point due to the type of mental illness i have being bpd.

Ill b mostly relying on word of mouth

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@Former-Member,

I understand, facebook wasn't a thing when I tried to gert a business going.

If theres a library, they generally will have a notice board. It's definitely harder if you don't know the place, but, maybe just put the feelers out if you can and keep an eye out for opportunities.

I really strugged with the advertising and getting work in the door. I was compotent at the work, but, found it hard to try and do both at the same time.

Word of mouth is often the best way. One of the first companies I worked for only did that for years and they were very succesful.

Hi @Doglover Very sorry I didn't see your post from last night until just now. I'm not often around at night time either. Part of my sleep hygeine routine is avoiding blue screen activities at night. Hoping you are feeling a bit better today and here to talk if you want to. Sending lots of support.

And supporting you too @Former-Member Good on you for speaking out. It must have been a shock to have the police come to do what sounds like a 'welfare check' on you. That would be hugely triggering for me. And good on you for planning to go to aqua again next week (I think that's what you meant). Don't let the d!@kheads drag you under. The good people out there will already know what gossips and devious types they are. I firmly believe you have something special to offer because of all you've been through. I had similar problems getting established as a massage therapist in another small Qld town at one stage. But just a couple of people tried me out and then spread the word to good people they knew and I was up and running. Hang in there and don't give up on your goal.

@eth

Thanks it certainly was a shock having police here.

They seemed to know gym i work at so possibly checked in with owner.

Angers me that they have all these mental health awareness days but this is happening at the main council pool!

They asked me to their lunch today. Im unsure if i can go but id like to go even just to say what happened so they know how cruel the staff were.

Yes im glad i spoke out. It was either hurt myself in front of those at the pool or speak out.

A huge wake up call to Council & pool id say.

Sometimes i feel like im put on this planet to alert people to the wrong theyre doing.

I have highlighted wrong doing from a young age but suffered so much in the process.

The hardest part will be going back to the pool next week tho.

They clearly didnt want me there.

I am trying to meet people. They never even saw that cause theyre so controlling & selfish.

I have to go to the pool to learn how to teach for my course too. They must b trying to stop that also.

They watched me & gossiped about me.

The horrible lady behind the counter is leaving this week but im glad council will step in before she disappears cause shes been doing this for a while now.

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@Gazza75 yeah ill keep looking around.

Got it into one osteopath place so maybe ill look in others.

I was invited to the pool social group lunch. I might just pop in & give out my cards.

Ill tell them after what was done to me i wont stay as id rather keep to myself now.

I did meet one nice lady. She was next to me & stated they cant tell me not to let people know about my class. She got it straight away.

I still would like to know where this originated from tho, the pool staff the runners of the pool or the aqua teacher herself being 2 faced.

Does make me not want to trust anyone there tho

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@Former-Member, sounds like a good idea to drop off some cards at lumch.

I can understand a little about why its hard to trust people. Have some issues with that myself. I used to have my brother, but, I'm not sure I can trust him like I used to.

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@Gazza75

I went to the lunch. Theyre a very nice group. There was no gossip at all.

They were just a nice bunch so i mostly listened.

At the end someone asked me about my class so i gave a card & shared what the pool had done.

They said no1 in that group had complained & they doubted anyone had complained.

They felt it wasnt the instructor on that day rather the pool staff.

Anyway i got a couple of cards out. Thats all i could do. But 2 know what im doing & word will spread.

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

That's really positive @Former-Member

I am glad they are a nice group and not full of gossips. 🙂

As they sometimes, a little goes a long way and I'm hoping this is the case with your cards and business! 🙂

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

@Gazza75

At lunch someone ph me. A private no. I didnt answer the ph & they didnt leave a message.

Ive been triggered off enough. If it was the council they would have left a message.

Just protecting myself from further harm at the moment.

Need time to process what happened too.

Baby steps with this.

I got the adv on council website sorted so i achieved something today.

Might try & do some piano prac now.

Thought it wise to let the group know tho so theyre aware how nasty the pool runners actually are.
