EMDR - Has anyone done this

EMDR - Has anyone done this

Hi all, i have had 1 session with a new psychologist who i like, but she has suggested we do a number of sessions of EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming. Apart from the cost factor which i rly cant afford, im pretty nervous about the whole thing. Supposedly it desensitises u to past trauma and its affects but things like this rly scare me. As any of u that i hav bn communicating with know i am going thru an extremely difficult time right now and im not sure that digging up or re-experiencing past traumas is the best way for me to go right now, even if the idea is to reduce the traumatic nature of those events. Im scared enough of the trauma and torture im going through right now! Id rly appreciate any feedback from anyone that has had this type of thereapy. I am seein her on monday and we are supposed to be devising our treatment plan so i need to make a decision by then. I have tagged some of my forum friends in but please feel free to tag anyone else in that u think might be able to provide some feedback.

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

Thanks for thinking of me @Zoe7 my friend. I hav survived another day. Symptoms were torturous yesterday, marginally less (5-10 percent) today. Still torturous but not quite as torturous as ystrday. Pretty crappy measuring symptoms by level of torture hey, but that my life at the mo!

Hope u have had a good day Zoe and hope u have a lovely weekend.

Thanks again for thinking of me and for all ur support. Hugs. Xxx

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

I really do feel for you @Doglover It is hard enough dealing with MI but not having that support makes it so much harder. I am glad your hubby went to the appointment with you and hope that this renewed sense of support from him continues everything crossed for you that it does.

I totally hear your fear about hospitals and can understand both your fear of them and the anxiety around coming off your meds completely. That is extremely tough and I imagine it will be a really difficult time for you. You do need this though Hon - we both know that. You cannot keep going as you are feeling the torture of life everyday. I wish I could be there to hold your hand and walk through this with you

I am a little lost for words tonight - knowing how hard it is for you right now. All I can offer from the other side of the screen is my support and my love and for you to know I am very much thinking of you.

Sending warm wishes @Doglover . Hanging out on the Saturday Soiree thread this afternoon if you feel like some company. Hope today is passing gently for you. Good news about a potential shift in things with your hubby. You deserve his unconditional support.

Thanks for ur support @eth , yes I hope the change in hubby lasts, and develops.

Rly struggling with fear about going into hospital, coming off meds, how thr going to do it, how bad it's going to be, how I'm going to cope, etc. Scared that thr not going to b able to get me better due to reactions to ingredients in meds that I believe give me these torturous symptoms. Just rly scared Eth. Petrified actually.

Enjoy Saturday Soiree!

s @Doglover you're half way there - is it one week to go now? I have faith that with the support you have here you'll get through til you can go private, and that you will be well cared for once there. I am sure they will make the weaning process as gentle as possible. xx

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

Hi @Zoe7 , thanks so much for your lovely post, for ur support and empathy. I hope hubby's renewed support continues too Zoe, I rly do. I still feel like I have to tip toe a bit and not say too much too often. I'm still keeping a lot of things inside when I rly want to say something about how I'm feeling or what's going on for me.

I actually can't imagine how they r going to get me off these meds, I rly can't. With the state that I'm in now on them, and with no replacement, I just can't see how it's going to work and I'm petrified Zoe, I rly am. I'm just so scared of what I'm going to hav to go thru. What I'm going thru now is sheer torture, I don't want to hav to go thru even worse torture. I wish u cld be thr holding my hand thru it too Zoe, I can't tell u how much I want that. And thank u for saying that u wld like to b able to do that for me, it means a lot.

I rly thank u for ur beautiful post Zoe,for ur love and support. I wish u cld b here! But I appreciate all the online support u have given me.

I think it's about 9 days til private health kicks in so unless things get worse and I have to go public before then, that will likely be D day.

Thinking of u Zoe will love and appreciation. I hope u r doing well. It always seems to be about me - I'm sorry for that .

Hugs to u Zoe.

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

It is more than okay that it is about you Hon - you very much need that support right now and I along with others here are only too happy to provide just a little of that for you @Doglover

I can hear just how scared you are of coming off the meds - the unknown can scare us more than the known because we honestly do not know what to expect. It is no wonder you are so scared - it is a big thing to have to face - but you will be in the best place to do that and will have constant care and support.

9 days may not seem a lot for most people but when you are constantly in this state of fear and anxiety it can seem like weeks. You can hold on for those 9 days though Hon - we have all seen your immense strength over the past few weeks - and don't sell yourself short here @Doglover as that is exactly what you have ...both strength and courage. It takes strength to get through every day as you have done and courage to face the unknown even though you are petrified underneath. ...and we will hold onto hope that it works out for you and you can arrive at a better place soon.

Sending you much love and a lot of hugs ...and continuing to sit right beside you throughout these coming 9 days ...and further into the coming weeks

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

Thank you once again for your heartfelt message @Zoe7 . I rly do need so much support right now and I thank u for being such a part of that Zoe.

Yes I am so scared about coming off meds. I'm absolutely petrified. I just don't see how they r going to b able to do it. I'm so scared Zoe and I am struggling so much today.

I don't know how I'm going to make it thru the next 9 days, or how I'm going to cope with what il need to go thru in hospital. I'm just so scared. I wish someone cld just take this away from me but I know it doesn't work that way.

Thank u for ur encouragement Zoe, I don't feel like I have ne strenghth or courage but thank u.

Thank u for all ur support, and sitting beside me thru this, and metaphorically holding my hand. I rly appreciate it. I don't know how much more I can take to be honest. Today is a rly bad day.

Thank u for all ur hugs and love and support. Thinking of u and sending hugs ur way too. Xxx

Re: EMDR - Has anyone done this

I have seen you be in this place several times over the last few weeks @Doglover and your have gotten through each of those days - so whilst you don't see your strength and courage yourself - I see it from my viewpoint. It is hard enough battling through each day sometimes but when we have little self-belief or fear for the future it makes it even harder. 2 weeks ago you could not see yourself getting through another day let alone another week - but the time for hospital is getting closer and closer and you have done that yourself. With the support you have here and your own inner strength you can get through these 9 days. Today is a really tough one - been there so many times before Hon - but also know now that tomorrow is another day and your only job for today is to ride it out as best you can. For me that often meant sleeping so I could get to the next day quicker - day by day, minute by minute if necessary - do what you need to do to get through.

I also get how petrified you are for hospital and what effect going off meds all at once will do - the good thing is that you will have support and monitoring to do that. Do not be afraid to let them know just how scared you are and do not be afraid to lean on those there to help you through. You deserve that and need that to help you get through it.

We here of course are supporting you too Hon - if it is by holding your hand and/or listening then that is what we will do. You matter to us
