Thought I'd get the ball rolling with Anzac Day. Did anyone get up to watch the Dawn Service today? My hubby is an ex-serviceman, and asked me to wake him up for the service. I did so at 5.30am, and he told me to go away, that he was too tired. Oh well ... we will watch the televised 10am service instead.

Ahh @TAB a good thing that you did head out this morning, you were willing to fight/go wherever that's what the medal is for. I grew up in a returned servicemen/ women estate. All my friends were kids of veterans mostly Viet Nam including my father. So much trauma in one community spreading to the next generation. I didn't walk out the front now I regret it, feeling so guilty.

Over the years, as an amateur family historian, I've done a lot of research into my relatives military service, and contributed a fair amount of detail to the AIF Project, when it was the centenary for 14-18 war. Lot of women and men in my mob who served

. When my late uncles were collecting from the family medals and other ephemera for a display at the War Memorial in Canberra, they didn't seem to know about - or value - the Female Relative Badges that were issued during WWI and WWII

I have my great-grandmothers badge, her two sons served in WWI and came home safely, and my nan's who lost her firstborn child and son in the intense battles and defence of Singapore, days before the Fall.

My nan saved every Anzac day badge she collected from when they became a thing until the year of her death in 59.
