My child left her old school due to bullying & exclusion- she started a new school & the new school is aware of this-

I dropped my child off at school today for her third day at the new school & when She got to her desk - which is a double desk - seating two children- the girl sitting next to her had picked up her work pencil case , drink & snack & moved her chair from her position sitting next to my daughter & had set up her seat on the very end of the table & was sitting there doing her work with her dad standing behind her & her brother next to her,she was doing her work as if nothing had happened-

Nothing was mentioned about this very obvious move away from my daughter.

The teacher was in the room & it was full if parents & students-

This sent a pretty clear message to myself that she doesn't like my child/ or doesn't want to sit next to my child-

i had a very Strong reaction started getting anxiety badly & felt very sad & upset & angry-I can only imagine my daughter had a very Strong reaction also-because it did not look nice & it did not feel nice.

this is my daughters THIRD DAY at this school-

I was speaking to the teacher about other issues & nothing was mentioned about the move-

we left to go to assembly & my daughter started panicking & getting upset saying I'm worried I won't have anyone to sit next to or play with - it appeared she had anxiety after seeing the girl move seats.

I don't know wether I should call the school & check on her or not because every single time I tried to talk about problems with the old school it made the situation worse escalated things & did not resolve anything. Iv been having anxiety & crying ever since I left her & I feel like just going & picking her up early.

Am I overreacting?? Or should I ring the school to check & see if she is ok? I don't want to cause problems or be labeled as a problem parent at this school- like I was at the last school for sticking up for & advocating for my child 😭😭😭😭

Re: Please Help

Maybe there needs to be be some talk with your daughter about how she was during the first 2 days to bring about the response you saw. It sounds very considered and the family is supporting thier child. Maybe your daughter does not know when she crosses other people's boundaries, borrows too much or is moving a lot and over fidgety ... not sure ... just trying to help ...

Stand by your daughter, but without blaming the other child ... figure out what the behaviour is ... you might not know ... your daughter might not know or be that self aware ... maybe the teacher can enquire.

Try and be calm and not escalate ...

Sad that this happening ... but if you can sort it out quickly ... best of luck @Serenity1

Re: Please Help

@Serenity1 personally to me it doesnt sond like the girl was being rude. she may also be anxious around new people or she could have many other reasons for moving other than not liking your daughter. another thing to consider is that not every kid will get along with each other the same way adults arent friends with every other adult they see kids also dont get along or dont click but it might have nothing to do with hating someone else. by moving she could have been trying not to be rude, but i wasnt there so cant speak for a lot of things. I also agree with @Appleblossom your daughter may have some habbits that are uncomfortable for other kids. when i was in primary school there was a boy who picked his nose and wipped it on other students desks. and while no one hated him they didnt want to sit next to him either because it was gross. and while i am not suggesting your daughter is doing that exact thing she could be doing other things that she doesnt even realise she is doing that might be uncomfortable, i moved seats once because of what hand i write with being in a clash with the student next to me and our arms were always bumping, it can be completely innocent. try and do some more enquiries before deciding on a course of action. good luck.

Re: Please Help

Yes- I am sure she is doing things that could be annoying- just like every other seven year old in the class- but this action was a huge statement to make after two days of a new child entering the classroom-I think it is way over the top & very unkind- as it has had a very Strong negative reaction in myself-& felt like a huge slap in the face- luckily my daughter seems unfazed by it when I picked her up- so I don't think I will ask her if she has done anything to annoy the child- because why should I upset my daughter more-after initially showing signs of being upset & anxiety when she first saw it this morning she is fine now- I do understand not everyone can get along- but two days in the school is absolutely ridiculous & Really unkind- I think this says more about the child that moved & her family, than my daughter- I would hope if my daughter was upsetting someone that I could be approached to try & help resolve the situation rather than such an obvious & rude act- if I was that child's parent I would at least tell my child to try for a week sitting next to the new child before moving- as two days is ridiculous & just rude- thanks for your reply @Appleblossom

Re: Please Help

It seemed like the rudest & most blatantly disrespectful thing IV ever seen in a classroom-& after two days, that is a complete joke- if you don't get along with the person you are sitting next to I completely understand- ask the teacher to Change seats with another student- but don't physically position yourself so as the entire rest of the class, parents, students are all noticing, wondering what has happened & drawing attention to my child who has only been at the school for TWO DAYS- & she is now sitting alone , isolated & feeling like she has done something wrong & everyone else is assuming this because it is such a blatant & obvious statement to make- it has really upset me & is completely unnecessary- I would never allow my child to behave so rudely to a student new to the class who does not know anybody & is trying to establish connections & friendships it is just plain cruel. Thanks for your reply @Eden1919

Re: Please Help

It's good that your daughter was unfazed by it @Serenity1, there could be several things happening here, such as writing hands - having a right-handed person sitting to the left of a left-handed person causes all sorts of problems or even a lack of space sitting in the middle. Given that the teacher is unaware of your history with the previous school, the fact that she didn't bring it up may indicate that there was no issue. Perhaps you can casually ask your daughter about school, her classmates and her table buddy? This will encourage conversation without any anxiety and you should be able to find out if anything happened.

We know that you have your daughter's best interests at heart and are trying everything to ensure your daughter doesn't have the same experience as she did in her previous school. @Serenity1

Re: Please Help

The teacher was very much aware of the bullying & exclusion from the other school- that is the reason I told them we left- so I am shocked- if it was a left handed thing - it would make sense to change students over - so as not to leave the new student sitting in isolation- it looked very much like it has come from the parents in response to something the child has said- because her teacher is lovely & I can't imagine her making a decision like this- it is completely ridiculous & goes against everything she has been speaking to me about keeping an eye on my daughter & making sure she is included @Ali11

Re: Please Help

I can see how frustrating that is for you @Serenity1. Maybe asking the teacher would be a better way to go, that way you aren't bringing any attention to the issue to your daughter and the teacher would be able to communicate the reasons for the move better. What do you think?

Re: Please Help

The amount of times my daughter has said to me that the people are annoying her that she is sitting next to at her old school- it is literally an everyday occurrence- but I have tried to explain to her that she has to put up with who she is sitting next to, as that is the place the teacher has chosen for her & try to give her ways to cope with whatever is annoying her- giving her the explanation that there are going to be annoying people in every place she goes to in life- to try & build her resilience - so this occurrence today is very hurtful, shocking & I take it completely personally as I have said she is TWO DAYS IN at this school it's plain cruel & unacceptable as far as I'm concerned @Ali11 @Eden1919 @Appleblossom

Re: Please Help

@Serenity1 I understand you are upset but i still think more investigation is needed and that is just my opinion and of course i wasnt there so may be uninformed. but 2 days is a long time for kids and you are an adult so you are approaching this form an adult brain kids often make fast and fleeting desicions and what they think is a reasonable time frame to give something a try is often very different from what an adult considers reasonable. so i dont think it was nessecarily a personal attack on your daughter. another thing to consider is that it may have literally nothing to do with your daughter at all and everything to do with the other child. some kids have speical needs. When i was in primary school and highschool and even college i would sit by myself any chance i got not because i hated the other kids but i hate being touched due to my OCD and really needed a large amount of personal space to be able to concentrate and not feel anxious. i hated people touching my stuff and i really needed to have a desk alone to not feel overwhelmed. but at the start of the year i would always get put next to someone and would always have to ask to move which would happen after a few days. if i had a single desk that was next to another desk i would move my desk to make sure there was a gap again all to do with how i felt not the other person. so there could be any number of reasons this child went to sit alone that doesnt mean that she was trying to offend anyone. just some thoughts again i wasnt there so cant be sure of anything.
