Hobbies (from Hobbits)

Hobbies (from Hobbits)

Hi everyone,

I'm called Hobbit. I'm a moderator on this forum, which gives me the wonderful opportunity to read through vastly complex, often sad, often happy posts from everyone. I'd like to thank everyone for their wonderful insights and for sharing their thoughts. I have said to many people I know, "if you want to see the basic 'good' in people, the strengths, the determination and perserverance, the warm-ness, and just plain 'nice-ness' in humans that we often forget exists, have a look at the discussions from these fantastic people".

I read a great post from someone earlier who said that getting away from it all and losing themselves to a hobby restores them and keeps them balanced.

So I thought I'd start this little discussion thread about hobbies. (I just wrote 'Hobbies from Hobbits because that's who I am....I'd love to hear hobbies from anyone...even Elves).

My main hobby is playing guitar. Sometimes I find my life is just made up of working/studying/working/studying...so I love sitting down and just paying guitar. I actually write songs, so playing guitar is such a great way of losing myself in creativity.

Let's hear about anyone else's hobbies! What do you like to do? What keeps you balanced? What is somehting you can 'lose yourself in' for a little while?

Hi hobbit,

I've come to a conclusion about me ...life.....universe...and everything. I would like to pinpoint blame on someone or whatever but in the end....we do things when it happens.....what will be.

From age of year dot.....I have always been very empathetic to others and thought that all studies etc have only for self interest etc. that my son's illness and subsequent getting better was for this empathetic feeling to grow into being a zing sang support worker for mental health.

But then when I returned to my volunteer work, I felt....okay I'm over this. after 18 months these spprofessionals don't know me. I'm not for this. II'm not changing anyone's life Jeepers I've worked hard enough. .....in years and years of heart felt experience .......all I would feel good in is if I am able to teach people these words.

Manage you own life.
find a friend.
Be kind.
Accept good feedback
Write up a daily timetable.

( get a cleaner ! ) tee hee hee tee hee !
when my partner lost ...misplaced his own daily well being, last month....It had nothing to do with me. I can do this and stay safe.

why do I want to work in here..It's easy to sit with a few people you see in a safe place and share it yourself.

Hi @PeppiPatty ,

Hobbit is online on Thursday night, so I thought I'd help you out.

When you hit reply, in the window where you're typing, there's a little button with an image of a mountain.

You'd think me being (amongst other things) a website administrator, I'd be somewhat 'technologically advanced' wouldn't you??

Alas I'm just a Hobbit. I'm good at doing things, but no so great at explaining how I did them!!

I think, if you can upload your photo onto your computer, (just save it onto your desktop(, then when you are replying to someone, you will see at the bottom of the text window (what you are writing in) a bit that says "attachments". Below it, it says "choose file". Click on that and select your 'desktop'. The image you saved should be there, and I assume you can just double click on the image and it should upload.

Does that make sense??

PS - i hope you work it out - I'd REALLY love to see this pic!!!

Hi guys,

Now @PeppiPatty - this is awesome. I did send a post the other night but deosn't look like it went through. Now tell us about this. Do I see some sort of leaf pattern on the left, rings in the middle, and flowers on the right hand side??

Describe you thoughts on this for us. What was the motivation?

(also tell me have I actually got it right ha ha!!)

Re: Hobbies (from Hobbits)

Thought I should add something to help keep the convo going. I play footy, but as far as individual hobbies I always liked computer gaming (I've been weaning myself off this, I'm 31 tomorrow so I think it's time I grew up!)

I haven't done much lately but I'm learning photography. Have a couple of hand me down cameras from my dad who is right into it too. Love taking photos of nature and weather. Hoping to spend lots of time on the road chasing the perfect lightning shot this summer. I spent some cold nights during winter out bush getting star trails or chasing meteor showers with mixed success.

I think photography is a great way to enjoy technology which is a love of mine, but also to get out with my own thoughts and experience the stars, the bush, animals, a sunset or the ocean. Very calming.

That's a really cool hobbby @BananaHammock - personally I am no good at it (still not quite sure where the camera is on my phone ha ha!!), but let's face it - photos are basically both a record of our lives and an expression of who we are as a person too!

Good on you!
